“If the Executive Branch believes a change in the law is necessary, it is free to request that change of the legislature, as many agencies annually do … Until then, it is quite clear what the plain language of the statute says, and the result of that plain language.”

There has been some confusion and misinformation about changes to SNAP benefits and HUSKY health insurance, in conjunction with work requirements.
In order to help explain these changes, the Connecticut Department of Social Services (DSS) has issued this guidance.
Hopefully it can assist those looking for answers.

“Judge Sarala Nagala denied a request by Attorney General William Tong to consider the request for an injunction at the same time as the trial over the state’s new law. Tong argued they would need time to gather information for the state’s defense and wouldn’t be prepared to argue the case until at least November. But the judge noted that the state’s defense of the law rests on legal arguments, not factual evidence, meaning no additional time was necessary.”

There are 186 members of the Connecticut legislature, but only 17 members (a mere 9%) co-sponsored this legislation. Proud to part of the minority, standing up for those brave men and women that protect us at home, and abroad.

As many of you are already aware, I recently held an essay contest in commemoration of our upcoming USA 250th Birthday festivities.
Offered to 8th Graders in Wallingford, all were invited to write about their favorite founding mother or father.
I was happy to learn that there were close to TWO HUNDRED submissions, and last week I was proud to select and present SELINA WAHBA from Dag Hammarskjold Middle School as the Essay Contest WINNER!
Selina wrote about Thomas Paine, a founding father I (admittedly) did not think of when developing the contest, and was happy to thank Selina for reminding me of his importance.
THANK YOU to all the essay writers. Have a GREAT SUMMER!
Honoring "America's 250th Essay Contest" Winner! State Representative Craig Fishbein presented Dag Hammarskjold Middle School student Selina Wahba with a certificate recognizing her winning essay on Thomas Paine for the "America's 250th Essay Contest!"

While Connecticut law requires four important health and safety warnings for cannabis products, there is a major catch: not every warning is required to appear on every package. Instead, the warnings rotate, meaning consumers may only see some of the warnings depending on which and when they purchase the product.
Recently I proposed legislation which would have required all four warnings to appear on every cannabis product sold in the state, arguing that if these warnings are important enough for the state to mandate, consumers should have access to all of them every time they make a purchase.
However, Connecticut Democrats voted against the proposal, preventing it from becoming law.
What do you think?
Should all required warnings appear on every package?
Does the current rotating system adequately inform consumers?
Or is this another example of government creating complicated rules that fail to serve the public effectively?
