Any NA meetings that were going to be held at SCCO HAVE BEEN CANCELLED FOR TONIGHT.
Have to give a "shout-out" to Shelby County Community Outreach!!! I contacted them for some odd jobs to be done here on the farm that were either beyond my capability or just plain dangerous! Ron French came out last week and did various jobs for me. This invaluable program assists those folks in the home that are in need of someone to do repairs and upkeep that allows them to stay in their own home. And this is only one of their many contributions to Shelby County!!! Thank you so much!!!
Many thanks to SCCO, Ron French, for all the work he did this morning here! So appreciate it!
CHALLENGE: Find 2 hours of your time between November 10 and December 24 to ring a Salvation Army bell at HyVee or Shopko! After you put in your time challenge one other person to do the same. To get on the schedule call Marian at 579-5626.

Bell Ringing Schedule:
November 10 through December 24;
Locations: SHOPKO or HyVEE;
2 hour shifts:
10:00am-12:00noon (except Sundays); 12:00noon-2:00pm; 2:00pm-4:00pm; 4:00pm-6:00pm; 6:00pm-8:00pm

Here's where the monies go:
90% of all Salvation Army funds collected in Shelby County are used right here in Shelby County.
West Central Community Action uses the funds to help families meet their utility bills when they run short.
Turkeys for the holidays are provided with SA funds in November for low income families
Public Health Office uses funds to provide lice kits and diapers to families in need.
They also provide fans for the elderly in hot weather.
Harlan Police Department and Shelby Corn Crib help stranded motorists with lodging and gas cards.
SCCO writes Salvation Army Special Projects grants for various projects such as the Back Pack Ministry
and Winter Apparel for Kids.
Thank you for helping Salvation Army help Shelby County.

*Hero's Attic Used Furniture*Small Home Repairs*Community Service Projects*Bridging the Gap We are Shelby County Community Outreach, known as SCCO.

We are a faith-based, non-profit organization which is not affiliated with any particular church or group. Our goal is to distribute the love of Jesus in Shelby County through our services, and exemplify that love by our actions and lives. Our founding mission was to provide small home repairs and maintenance to the elderly, disabled and low income residents of Shelby County. Since then we've maintained this aspect of our service, while also branching out into other areas of assistance. Among these are:

Hero's Attic - Our home furnishings center, where affordable items are made available to the public. We accept donations which are microwave size or larger. Temporary Housing - Up to 30 days worth of transitional housing for those who have fallen upon hard times. Mentoring - Adult and youth programs are available, which teach life skills with a biblical foundation. Community Service - Organizing volunteer groups to go out and make a difference in our community and to serve where they are needed most.

Salvation Army of Shelby County

Did you know that Salvation Army of Shelby County has helped 40 families this year with utility assistance, gas cards, lodging and other emergency related needs? We are able to help others because of the generosity of the people of Shelby County who drop cash in the red kettles in November and December. Thank you! If you'd like to volunteer to ring bells to help this effort, we will begin sign ups in October.

[08/11/20]   SCCO and Hero's Attic will close at 4:00 Tuesday, August 11 for our annual Golf Fundraiser.

Volunteer Sign-Up

The Shelby County Iowa – Community Organizations Active in Disaster (SCI-COAD) group is in the process of establishing a volunteer reception center, of sorts. Shelby County Emergency Manager has asked the SCI-COAD to assist with finding, vetting and interviewing volunteers needed throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic.

You will find a google form doc that will allow the public to send us their information.

Please share this google doc form as far and wide as possible. Once volunteer information is collected, the SCI-COAD will interview and screen potential volunteers and help assign them with various volunteer needs in the community.
