[11/09/20]   On Monday November 9th at approximately 4:25 am a call was received at the Shelby County 911 Center for a child that was missing. Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Harlan Police Department, Shelby County EMA, Panama Fire Department, Portsmouth Fire Department, Earling Fire Department, Westphalia Fire Department, Harlan Fire Department, and Iowa State Patrol responded to assist in locating the child. The child was found a short distance from the family’s home in good health and returned to his parents.

Alex Londo
EMA Coordinator.

[11/09/20]   The Shelby County Sheriffs office took a report of a missing child near Panama this morning. The child has since been located. Press release to follow.

[10/16/20]   The Harlan Police department is reminding all residents to make sure that they have their building numbers (address numbers) on their houses. City code 150.02 requires this.
The numbering is extremely important. Without these numbers there can be a significant delay in getting emergency services to your house.
Fire, Ambulance, and Law Enforcement rely on numbering to get you the quickest emergency services possible. A delay in not being able to locate the correct house has the potential be disastrous.
It is every homeowner’s responsibility to have the numbers clearly visible from the street. If you are a renter, check your house and contact your landlord if the address numbers are missing.
Let’s work together to give you the best, quickest service when you need it most.
