River Arts is excited to announce a new collaboration with GRACE - Grass Roots Art and Community Effort. Similar to how River Arts Open Studio Figure Drawing operates, each week, Curator and Artistic Director Kathy Stark will share a selection from G.R.A.C.E’s collection of outsider artwork, which River Arts will share to our page. We encourage you to use each piece as an inspiration and a departure point for your own original creation.

Our you an intermediate level rug ho**er looking to take your skills to the next level? Join our Techniques of Shading in Rug Hooking with Stephanie Allen-Krauss!

Important: Students should have their own frame & hook. This is not a beginner class.

Stephanie will introduce students to a variety of shading techniques using spot-dyed wool, dip-dyed wool, and gradation swatches. Students will see examples of these techniques, and after some class discussion, students will have an opportunity to use each technique with the kit. The kit includes a pre-printed design on rug warp backing, swatches of colored wool fabric for hooking in each of the four blocks of flowers, complete written instructions and a color diagram. Swatches can be cut in #4 strips if a student doesn’t have a cutting machine. Wool to complete the background is not included. This will allow each student to choose a light, dark or multi-colored background to complete the project. Students may order the wool of their choosing from Stephanie.
