Big shoutout to Outwork Ink for sponsoring our very own miracle player Willow Austin her story is one to tell for sure. Just a short time ago she was fighting for her life due to an unfortunate accident.
This is her story from her mother Nickiea Austin and her father Randy E Austin Jr.
A perfectly healthy extremely active 12 year old athlete took a turn for the worse just 48 hours after bumping her leg after falling on rocks playing basketball with no open wound or even a bruise.
Osteomylitis set up in her tibia causing her bone to swell which caused a blood clot behind her knee and within 36 hours of her first mention of pain and 2 misdiagnosed visits to the Dr for clearance to play basketball & softball that week we were rushing to Children's with a very sick little girl that we suspected had a blood clot. 16 hours after confirmation of the blood clot & Osteomylitis everything took a dark turn and she became septic.
Infection began to rid through her little body, attacking all of her organs, her heart & her lungs were in bad shape. She was on 8 liters of oxygen and still falling below the threshold of where they wanted her to be. She developed compartment syndrome in her infected leg after her blood clot became a completely occlusive DVT blocking flow from her hip to her ankle.
As 20 Doctors & Nurses rushed in the room prepping to do a fasciotomy they began to prepare us for the worst.
I remember clearly asking how long she would be down because sports is her life when a Doctor had to get real point blank and explain they were just trying to get her through to the next hour and recovery wasn't the concern at the moment but SURVIVAL was!
This girl kept fighting though and God held her! On day 15 it was yet another day of battles with pain, tears, and Willow saying "Mommy I just can't do this I can't take it any more" it was in that moment as it was just her and I in the room that I said "Willow let's just pray together" and I prayed over her whole body. I wont lie, in that moment I wasn't sure if God was going to heal her Earth side or if she would be healed on the other side but I knew my girl needed God and needed him quick!
Just hours later at 3am on Day 16 Randy and I were woke up by a Doctor needing us to immediately sign consent for a blood transfusion because her numbers had drastically dropped and we were loosing her yet again.
In that very moment my childhood Pastors wife was woke up and God gave her Willows name. She said she knew she had to get up and pray for her right then and she did not get off her knees until God confirmed to her Willow was going to come home!
Willow recieved her miracle IN THAT BLOOD! From that moment healing little by little began to happen! Willow was supposed to come home on a picc line and needing IV antibiotics for 6 months but on day 20 her numbers completely flipped and she was able to come home on day 21 on pill form, she was supposed to be on blood thinner shots for possibly a year but only needed them for 1 week after discharge!
In 21 days she endured 3 surgeries, 8 drains, a picc placement, countless MRI's, Ultrasounds, Echos, IVs and a million shots.
This girl had all odds against her
BUT GOD WAS FOR HER!
Outwork Ink sponsored athlete Willow Austin has started this season off with her team Fusion Fastpitch on FIRE! Her and her team mates are off to a 6-0-1 start with a first place finish and a second place finish. That second place is only due to rainout which was a bummer for them. Willow was fighting for her life a short time ago and here is the story from her mom and dad.

Following last week’s undefeated performance, which resulted in a 4-0 record and a championship title on the first weekend back, Fusion approached this weekend with a renewed championship mindset. After achieving a 2-0-1 record in pool play and securing the second seed by a mere one run separating them from first, Fusion’s objective entering bracket play was clear win all three games to claim another championship, scoring a substantial number of runs to render it impossible for opposing teams to catch up. Unfortunately, inclement weather had other plans. As a result, Fusion will conclude the tournament in second place, as the standings will revert to the pool play results. Nevertheless, the coaching staff feels truly blessed to be working with this exceptional group of young women. We look forward to the next tournament. ❤️
