We offer Design For Manufacturing review services for design houses that either don’t have these abilities in house or are too busy to be able to get it done in a timely manner. The most important aspect of part and product assembly design is to develop a part the can be manufactured in the most economical way, while still maintaining part design integrity. This can be done using comprehensive DFM techniques as it relates to good molding and tooling practices. We can facilitate the application of DFM; provide specific DFM feedback; and facilitate consideration of design, material and process alternatives. It’s critical for the part design engineers, tool design engineers, and manufacturing engineers to be involved in the part assembly development process. This facilitates corporation across the manufacturing spectrum. I have over 30 years of hands on experience in plastic mold design and building, evaluation, troubleshooting, project management, design review, purchasing and sales related activities, starting my career as a toolmaker, building plastic injection molds, primarily for the automotive, consumer products and medical industries. I have a deep technical knowledge of plastic mold design, with part design for manufacturability experience that can identify areas of concern in part designs and advise modifications to eliminate problems before parts are tooled. The ability to "design out" manufacturing problems at the part design stage is a key, along with the visualization of plastic mold tooling and its relationship to manufacturing.
