We were very excited to have the winning bid for the Reserve Grand Champion heifer at the Delaware County Livestock show and auction. This heifer was raised and shown by Addy Zellow. Addy worked very hard this past year getting her heifer ready. We look forward to seeing her next year.

We wrapped up the year by being able to contribute to some of our favorite local organizations. Second Chance Pet Rescue, Grove PD Cops for Tots program, and DECSAN. These organizations do immeasurable good in our community.
Couldn’t help but notice all of the fall color last week around town and at the office. Marley even seemed to take notice. Greg the ground hog has most likely made his final appearance until spring.
Trick or treating with our office family at the dental office this evening. Lots of kids with great costumes. Was a pet friendly event so Marley and Pedro even joined in the fun. Pedro was a Matador and Marley the tooth fairy. Mary and I are incredibly thankful and blessed.
We’re very excited to bring Barbara to Grove and our office.

Our patients got some added entertainment this week. Randy the raccoon got stuck in the squirrel feeder so had to do a midday rescue. Greg the groundhog got his morning doughnut and carrots. Then our fawn has decided to come up and hangout with everyone else in the neighborhood.
This year we were fortunate to have some great summer help. Colin Craig joined us this summer and was always there and did a great job. He’s headed back to college to start his sophomore year. I don’t think I was able to talk him into dental school but he seemed to enjoy flying quite a bit. Best of luck Colin your future is bright and we’re very proud of you. Colin is the son of Steve and Jamie Craig of Grove.
Trying to do dentistry can be distracting sometimes for our staff and patients. These kids stopped by for lunch this afternoon.
Some great scenery at the office this week. Was surprised the ground hog ate a glazed doughnut we put out for the birds. Mom and her twins this afternoon.
Vegetable medley today. Carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower. No complaints from these kids. 4th ground hog baby showed up today for lunch at the office. I think the word is getting out in the ground hog community.
Our front office is amazing. They are all about customer service and making sure our valued patients are taken care of.
St. Patrick’s Day was a blast with this group. Marley even wore green and participated.
Even though we have had to close the office due to weather we are still feeding our birds and deer. Kenner even tried to help but couldn’t navigate the snow very well.
Marley enjoys visiting with our patients with Mary. She is definitely a hit at the office.
It’s always a pleasure for us to participate in the Grove PDs Cops for Tots program. This is a great program to help kids in need in our community to have a better Christmas. This is our 10th year participating in this wonderful program
Everyday is a blessing to be able to go to work with so many wonderful and talented ladies. Not only is Mary my best friend and a amazing wife she is also an incredible and tireless leader in our office. Pedro one of her rescue dogs even enjoys coming to work with her and helps out.
It was a pleasure to participate in the "Shop with a Cop" program with officer Tracy Reynolds and the Wyandotte Tribal Police Department. Our two outstanding hygienists Whitney and JoAnn put these dental hygiene packs together for those in need in the Wyandotte community.
We are extremely honored that Grand Lake Dental has been recognized as a family positive workplace by the Potts Family Foundation in Oklahoma City. For many years we have tried to go above and beyond to help our employees both professionally and when needed personally. Oklahoma Department of Labor Commissioner Leslie Osborn presented the award to us at the Potts Foundation building. We were also honored to have our friends former Oklahoma Secretary of Education Phyliss Hudecki and former State Representative Doug Cox join us to receive this award.
Mary hitting it hard Sunday night getting ready for Monday’s patients. She has her helper with her.
Sam found this little guy this morning. Wild rabbit and no mom. So needless to say he is getting bottle fed and hanging out at the office today. I think we’re raising a rabbit.
In celebration of Dr. Jobst Birthday, in July, he sponsored "Second Chance Pet Rescue" in Grove. This allowed 27 cats and 13 dogs to find their forever homes and a second chance! GLD loves our furry friends. Thank you to all for supporting this cause.
A great pic of some excess display of gum tissue. The patient came to us with a gummy smile. We were able to do a gum lift with re-contouring in about 15 minutes to get her a better aesthetic appearance with her smile.
We are honored to be able to help sponsor July adoptions and help find these beautiful pets a loving second home and second chance. Second Chance Pet Rescue is an outstanding organization here in Grove that is near and dear to our heart.
"Sore, red, bleeding gums and bad breath are some of the first signs of gum disease. Sure, there could be other reasons for these symptoms, but for American adults, gum disease is not uncommon. In fact, a 2012 CDC survey shows that nearly half of American adults have some form of periodontal disease and the stakes only get higher as a person gets older."

It’s no secret that dental implants are one of the greatest inventions in the history of dentistry. Never before have patients been able to restore their smiles in a way that mimics their natural tooth structure. In fact, dental implants take on the role of the tooth root so patients experience more benefits than with other restorative options.

Along with public speaking, spiders, and heights, visiting the dentist is one of the most common fears among Americans. Many of these anxieties stem from a perpetuated idea that going to the dentist is always uncomfortable and that patients always receive bad news. Most dentists work hard to undo that way of thinking by providing a comfortable, safe, and welcoming environment for patients. However, sometimes that just isn’t enough.

We are excited to say that we are back and ready to serve you! Our office will resume regularly scheduled patients on Monday May 4, 2020 and begin seeing patients on an amended schedule.
Our office follows infection control recommendations made by the American Dental Association (ADA), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). We follow the activities of these agencies so that we are up-to-date on any new rulings or guidance that may be issued. We do this to make sure that our infection control procedures are current and adhere to each agencies’ recommendations.
Safety is our #1 priority so you will see some changes when it is time for your next appointment. We made these changes to help protect our patients and staff. For example:
Our office will ask some screening questions. Please let us know if you answer YES to any of these questions so we can reschedule your appointment:
-Have you traveled out of the immediate area in the last 30 days?
-Have you been in close contact with person suspected of or diagnosed with Covid-19?
-Are you experiencing severe acute lower respiratory illness such as cough, runny nose, shortness of breath or fever?
Changes you can expect to see at your appointment:
-We will be limiting the number of patients and guests in the clinic at any given time. Adult patients will be asked to enter alone, while children and adults requiring special assistance will be permitted only one caregiver to enter the facility at a time.
-We have hand sanitizer that we will ask you to use at check in. Your temperature will be taken and if normal, review a few questions and sign a form along with payment for your anticipated patient portion for your services.
-You will see that our waiting room will no longer offer magazines, brochures and newspapers as they are difficult to clean and disinfect.
-Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing between patients. That might mean that you’re offered fewer options for scheduling your appointment.
-We will do our best to allow greater time between patients to reduce waiting times for you, as well as to reduce the number of patients in the reception area at any one time.
-We will be using enhanced personal protective equipment (PPE) including N95 masks, surgical gowns, gloves, masks, and face-shields.
-All procedures that create aerosols will require the use of a rubber dental dam to reduce the bacterial spread of aerosols.
-Check out after treatment, scheduling for follow-up and payment for unanticipated services will be completed in your exam room, then you will be dismissed out a separate exit door.
Behind the Scenes Changes:
-We will be screening doctors and staff every morning for fever and symptoms of COVID-19, if staff/Dr is ill they will be sent home.
-We have incorporated a new air filtration system that will help to eliminate bacteria and germs using UV light, HEPA filters and an ozonator.
We cannot say THANK YOU enough to our patients who have been so patient throughout this process.
We can’t wait to see your smiling faces, we've missed you!
Sincerely,
Your dental family at Grand Lake Dental
It’s nice to be to work full time. I greatly appreciate our staff that saw emergency patients with us for the past several weeks. Even though we might dress differently we are glad to be here to serve our community.
