We’re so proud to congratulate Cassio Vianna on his Latin Grammy nomination for his big band chart “Flight 962”! 🎉✨

“Flight 962” has such a beautiful story behind it. Cassio wrote the original tune in 2019 to mark his 10th year living in the U.S., inspired by the long journey from Brazil and everything that came with it — the excitement, the uncertainty, the possibilities. During the pandemic, he expanded it into a full big band arrangement (all 224 measures of it!), and the piece premiered at the 2022 JEN Conference in Dallas… the very city connected to the real Flight 962. ✈️🇧🇷

We’re honored to have this chart in the iJazzMusic catalog, and grateful that so many ensembles can discover and perform it around the world.

Your departure means that we are not going to enjoy your presence around us but you manage to become immortal cause you are going to stay with many of us for the remaining of our days. Sure we will miss your serenity, humor, musicianship, friendship… For many of us, the so-called professionals, you were someone whom we listened to. Music was your life, was in you and you knew how to take it out in any instrument you put your hands on, and believe me, we learned a lot from you (I know you will be shaking your head in your humble way)

It was amazing to have the opportunity to know you and to learn from you.
