Due to a vast shortage in certain veterinarian specialties, the Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program (VMLRP) is offering to award students up to $75,000 in loan repayment awards to help eligible veterinarians offset a significant portion of the debt incurred in pursuit of their veterinary medical degrees. In return, veterinary medicine graduates promise their service in certain high-priority veterinary shortage situations.

In late December 2021, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) extended the student loan payment pause (otherwise known as the ‘CARES Act’) through to May 1, 2022.
The pause includes the following relief measures:
• A suspension of loan payments
• A 0% interest rate
• Halted collections on defaulted loans
The types of loans that are eligible for the CARES Act relief measures are:
• Direct Loans (includes both defaulted & non-defaulted) *This
includes Grad PLUS and Unsubsidized loans. These are the
types of federal loans we offer at SGU*
• Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program loans held by
ED (defaulted & non-defaulted)
• Federal Perkins Loans held by ED (defaulted & non-defaulted)
• Defaulted FFEL Program loans not held by ED
• Defaulted HEAL loan
