Michigan’s Severe Weather Awareness week will be held March 19-25, 2023. The following MIREADY link contains valuable planning and preparedness information to help keep you safe. 2023 Severe Weather Awareness Week and Statewide Tornado Drill Media Tool Kit

On Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 1:00 P.M., Jackson County will be participating in the Statewide Tornado Drill. The outdoor warning sirens around the county will be activated at this time. The sirens are designed to alert you if you’re outdoors and may not be heard if you’re indoors. Depending on your location, you may or may not hear the sirens so please keep this in mind.

Many local School Districts, Businesses, Citizens and Governmental Agencies will be participating in the voluntary drill. This is a great time for you to prepare and practice your response to an actual event, if one were to ever occur. Please use this time to discuss plans and safe areas with coworkers, family and friends.

National Broadband Map

The State of Michigan is urging communities and residents to challenge the FCC's Broadband Map

Because high-speed internet is not available to nearly a half-million homes in Michigan, the state is urging every Michigander to check their home and business address on the preliminary broadband map to ensure it accurately reflects their level of internet access. The Michigan High-Speed Internet Office is also working to challenge the map, but it's important for everyone across the state to know how to view and challenge the map. Please share the following information and links with your residents and community. To access the FCC broadband map:

Visit broadbandmap.fcc.gov/home here, then type in an address and see if the reported coverage is accurate. You can access the site from a computer or a mobile device.
Residents can submit a challenge by clicking "Location Challenge" if the location of their home or business is missing or incorrect, or "Availability Challenge" if the internet service information is incorrect.
Residents should visit the website of any internet service provider that claims to serve their location and use the website's "Check Availability" or similar tool to determine if the provider can serve their location.
If they can't, a screenshot of their website can be submitted to the FCC as evidence for an availability challenge.
Follow the instructions on how to file an availability challenge using the new map. A how-to video is also available.

I-94 lane closures scheduled this week in Jackson

LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will have the following lane closures in place this week as part of the I-94 project in Jackson:

• Westbound I-94 will have one lane closed from the southbound US-127 ramp to the Elm Road off ramp 2-3 for paving.
• Eastbound I-94 will have one lane closed from Airport Road to Cooper Street 4 for pavement markings.
This work is part of MDOT's ongoing $120 million investment to rebuild and widen I-94 near the Airport Road interchange to just west of the east US-127/I-94 interchange in Blackman and Leoni Township. The I-94 project involves upgrading the US-127/M-50 (West Avenue)/I-94 interchange to a diverging diamond interchange, the Elm Road interchange with roundabouts, and the Lansing Avenue bridge over I-94.
Funding for this project is made possible by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's Rebuilding Michigan program to rebuild the state highways and bridges that are critical to the state's economy and carry the most traffic. The investment strategy is aimed at fixes that result in longer useful lives and improves the condition of the state's infrastructure.
For project news and updates, subscribe to the I-94 Jackson County project e-mail list.
