Trying different flavors/types of candy, cookies, and other desserts. Life is more exciting with candy!

I was curious about trying the unusual flavor of the new BTS Oreos, a collaboration between Oreo and the Korean boy band BTS. The cookies are purple (for the first time ever), and the two layers of creme are brown sugar and pancake flavors. The flavor is based on a popular Korean street food called hotteok, which is a pancake filled with brown sugar and cinnamon and served warm.

First of all, when I opened the package, the Oreos smelled just like what they are — brown sugar and pancake, but especially brown sugar. My package included all 13 designs (chosen by the band members themselves).

These are quite good! They’re really sweet. Who would have thought pancake-flavored creme could work? Brown sugar, sure, but the pancake flavor was better than I expected. Also, I tasted tiny crunchy pieces of something (I don’t know what) that give the cookies a nice, subtle crunch that makes them even better.

I couldn’t find any information on what flavor the purple cookie part is, but I’m thinking it’s vanilla, like the Golden Oreos. It didn’t taste chocolatey.

When I first tried them, I wasn’t too excited and rated them a 7.5 or 8, agreeing with my son’s opinion that you can see in the video. But on the second day, something interesting happened — they got better (and better and better)! They started getting addicting too. So I upgraded the rating to 8.5. Then on the third day (today), I decided they deserve a 9/10. There unfortunately won’t be a fourth day. 😆

These are only out for a limited time, so if you want to try them, check stores such as Walmart, Target, and Walgreens.

I’ve been on the hunt for some Dubai chocolate to try that isn’t super expensive, so I got these new “Dubai style flavored” candy wafers from Walmart. Apparently I misunderstood because these are for baking, not snacking! I was shopping online for curbside pickup, and when I first saw these I thought “wafers” meant like KitKat wafers. I thought they would look like the pictures on the bag, which look quite tasty. Eventually I noticed the little window on the bag, so I knew what I was getting, except I didn’t realize they were for baking.

These wafers aren’t bad. They’re creamy and taste like pistachios, even though they don’t actually contain any, as far as I can tell. They’re very thin but full of flavor. I can see how they might be good for baking. It’s a unique taste, like the Dubai-style mint cookies & cream bar I tried a couple of months ago. I’m starting to think Dubai chocolate isn’t really my style, but I’d still like to try the real thing instead of just “Dubai style”. (That’s probably the really expensive stuff though.) I give these baking wafers a 6.5/10 for snacking.

I stopped by a local candy shop called Wakarusa Dime Store yesterday with my family. They are best known for their jumbo jelly beans, but they have lots of other unique stuff like unusual sodas and sooo many flavors of taffy, with an old-time candy shop vibe.

So now I have a few new exciting candies to try, along with some things I already had from Walmart (not in the picture). I had a bit of a setback after a storm took our power out for more than a day, but I’m ready to get back to trying candy!

Not pictured: white chocolate nonpareil pretzels (not reviewing since they’re specific to that shop), a novelty soda and jumbo jelly beans that my husband picked out, eight flavors of taffy for my dad for Father’s Day, and my son’s stuffed Bluey “Beanie Bouncer”.

Did you know there are so many flavors of Twix? I decided to try all five flavors that Walmart carries:
Original (caramel)
Snickerdoodle
Cookie Dough
Salted Caramel
Cookies & Creme

I know I’ve had some of these before, but I didn’t remember which ones other than the original. (I think I’ve also had Peanut Butter Twix, but they’re discontinued now.) Of course I didn’t really need to test the original, but it served as a basis of comparison, plus it was on sale in this size.

Cookies & Creme and the original were my favorites. It’s hard to beat the original. But Cookies & Creme was so good and so… cookie-y. Creamy too. I didn’t even miss the caramel.

Cookie Dough was also really good, and it even smelled good! I did kind of miss the caramel though.

Salted Caramel and Snickerdoodle both still have caramel and taste pretty similar to the original, in my opinion, just with an extra kick (saltiness or cinnamon). Snickerdoodle was my least favorite of the five flavors, but I’d still rate it at least 8/10. I guess I’m not a big fan of cinnamon.

My son tried all the flavors and liked them all too.

Conclusion: All flavors of Twix are delicious! 😄

Burger King has a new Firecracker Cookie Pie for a limited time. I tried it tonight, and it’s delicious!

Burger King describes it as:
“A chilled pie that combines a soft, velvety creamy layer and a crunch of sugar cookie crust topped with red and blue star-shaped sprinkles.”

It’s so sweet and creamy! Maybe a 10/10, but I would need to have another one to decide. It just went too fast!

Here’s what I’m currently taste-testing! 😋 A different flavor each day… but I think I’ll skip today because I’m too full from supper at Taco Bell. 😄

I decided to try Crumbl Cookies for the first time over the weekend! We don’t have one in our city (or I would have tried it already), but there’s one in a bigger city nearby. There’s been a lot of hype about Crumbl, so I was expecting these cookies to be amazing, especially with the exciting flavors I picked. But my first Crumbl experience turned out to be kind of… meh. I tried four different flavors; the first two were boring, and the other two were good… but still not as good as Oreos, Lofthouse Cookies, the sugar cookies at Wendy’s, or my mom’s Christmas cookies.

The store smelled good. There were display cookies, but I didn’t notice until after we’d ordered on the kiosk. I got six minis: Strawberry Cheesecake Cookie (x2, but one was for my son), Pink Sugar Cookie, Biscoff Cheesecake, and Peanut Butter Cup Brownie Cookie ft. Reese’s (x2). I almost ordered S’mores but got confused and thought they were thins, which I didn’t want, but that was just one of the weekly flavors, and they have a regular S’mores too.

Strawberry Cheesecake sounded the most exciting, so I tried that first. Somehow they managed to make strawberry cheesecake boring. I tasted the strawberry syrup more than anything. The base cookie didn’t have much of a taste, in my opinion. 6/10

Next was the Peanut Butter Cup Brownie Cookie ft. Reese’s. I couldn’t believe that this one was mediocre too. I could barely taste any Reese’s. It mostly tasted like a brownie with caramel, specifically a slightly burnt brownie. 6.5/10

I was really disappointed in Crumbl by that point, but things started looking up with the Pink Sugar Cookie. The frosting was excellent. 9.5/10

The last one I tried was Biscoff Cheesecake. I’m not sure if they classify this one as a cookie. The cheesecake part was really good, but I didn’t care for the bottom part. There were some weird spices going on. 9.5/10

So it seems like it’s hit and miss, since two flavors were good, and the other two weren’t bad but weren’t exciting either. Maybe the big size would taste better than minis. I might go back; I might not. I can get better cookies for a lot less money at Walmart!

This was my last Five Below find left to try, finally. It’s Japanese mochi. I assumed they were grape flavored, since they’re purple and I couldn’t read the Japanese on the box. Oops, my fault for not checking the back of the box before buying. They are definitely NOT grape flavored.

Have you guessed the flavor? I checked the ingredients after opening the box, but before eating one. I had a suspicion by that point, based on my research on Japanese KitKats. They’re ube flavored, which means purple yam… and I hate yams and sweet potatoes (which I thought were the same thing, but apparently they’re not). 🤢

I tried one anyway even though I knew I would probably hate it. And… yes, I hated it. As I was chewing my first bite, I said, “Oh, this isn’t so bad.” But a second or two later, it was. Yuck. I had to eat something else to get the taste out of my mouth.

To be fair, the texture of the mochi was nice, as was the powder. If I tried a flavor that I actually like, I think I would enjoy this brand. Literally just about any flavor would be better. I’m not sure if I’d rate these a 1 or 1.5, but it doesn’t really seem fair to rate them. It was my mistake for getting a flavor I didn’t like. Now I have to find somebody who likes yams to give these to!

Here’s the next new Oreo release to be on the lookout for! The BTS Oreos are brown sugar pancake flavor, with purple cookies! They’re coming out on June 8. This sounds like such a unique flavor, and I’m looking forward to giving it a try.

OREO is teaming up with BTS for new BROWN SUGAR PANCAKE cookies and I cannot wait to give these a try!

They'll be rolling into stores on June 8th and feature the first ever purple wafer OREO cookie that has a layer of new Brown Sugar pancake creme inspired by 'hotteok, the beloved Korean street snack and the band’s favorite snack growing up' along with 13 different embossments on the cookies.

These will be a worldwide release so other countries will be getting them - are you trying the new OREO x BTS (방탄소년단) Brown Sugar Pancake flavor?

Recently I tried these Birthday Cake Cookie Dough Bites. I love cookie dough and birthday cake flavors, but I wouldn’t have thought of combining the two! They even have sprinkles, which I didn’t notice until I was taking pictures of the box (I thought they were just spots to make them look more colorful), but they’re only on part of each piece.

These were really good! The flavors taste great, and the bites are just the right softness level. They seemed like they kept getting better… so of course I ate most of them the first time I opened them. (It was a little after 10 a.m., by the way. 😋) I made myself stop and save some for my husband and son. These are dangerous!

You taste the birthday cake more than the cookie dough… it might be better if they were more even. The birthday cake flavor also tastes slightly artificial. So they get a 9.5/10 from me instead of a 10. Still great, and addicting! These were one of my Five Below finds, but it looks like you can also get them at Walgreens if you’re lucky.
