A little lighting inspiration from Dallas Design Week.

Lighting is one of those details that can completely change the feeling of a room. Overhead lighting can be a big distraction or a big add. We’ve all been in a space filled with too bright cool fluorescent lighting that ruined the vibe.

For me, the best lighting doesn’t just illuminate a room. It adds warmth, texture, character, and another layer to the story of a home.

A few ideas I’m excited to bring home and tuck away for just the right project.

More and more, I’m gravitating toward designing for the way we actually live our daily lives.

Homes that feel collected, comfortable, and personal. Not staged or propy (is that a word?)

It’s homey. It’s practical. It’s personal. It’s who we are. We go through a lot of fruit. We grow herbs in the garden that we forget to use. And, of course always a lamp in the kitchen.

Because I think the best homes don’t just look beautiful. They feel like the people who live there.

Here’s what’s shaping our vision for The Everett House on Spaniel Hill.

Designing a home from scratch with an architect is a dream come true. Along the way, we’ve realized our family is entering a new season. As our children grow up, some may never actually live in this house, but we hope they will always call it HOME. We hold these plans with open hands, trusting the Lord with every detail. Our hope is to create more than a house. We want to build a place where family gathers, memories are made, and future generations will always feel welcome. A home to return to. A place to belong. A legacy of hospitality and togetherness. @dalton_design_studio
