Inspiring and empowering every learner to lead, grow, and serve.
YOU CAN DO BOTH!
There’s no single path to excellence.
Some students discover their strengths in the spotlight. Others build them in classrooms, studios, rehearsal halls, practice fields, and competition spaces. Across GISD, students are proving that success can take many forms.
This week’s featured students are involved in band, volleyball, art, track, sparklers, glee, musical theater, cheer, and theater — bringing dedication, creativity, resilience, and collaboration into everything they do.
Every rehearsal, performance, practice, meeting, and challenge becomes part of their story. Different passions. Different journeys. Shared excellence.
What’s one experience that’s helped you grow the most?
YOU CAN DO BOTH!
Creativity and competition go hand in hand.
Some students find their rhythm under stadium lights. Others find it on a stage, in rehearsal, or through creative expression. Across GISD, many are discovering they can thrive in both worlds at the same time.
This week’s featured students are involved in volleyball, art, cheer, choir, tennis, glee, band, softball, theater, basketball, and football—bringing teamwork, discipline, confidence, and creativity into everything they do.
Every practice, performance, game, and rehearsal helps shape who they are becoming—and no two journeys look exactly the same.
What’s one activity that’s helped shape you?
YOU CAN DO BOTH! Built for more than just one thing.
One student might head from softball practice to art class. Another balances powerlifting with band, or theater with Teen Court. Around GISD, students are proving every day that their interests don’t have to fit inside a single label.
This week’s spotlight features students involved in softball, powerlifting, art, band, dance, Teen Court, sculpture, basketball, tech theater, theater, and tennis—each one bringing a different combination of talents and passions to the table.
The best part? There’s no “right” combination. That’s what makes every story unique.
What activities make up YOUR story?

Celebrating outstanding achievement in visual arts across GISD!
At the VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event) State level, our students from Georgetown High School and East View High School earned top honors, showcasing incredible talent, creativity, and dedication.
GHS student August Michealis received the Dr. Jim Henderson Memorial Scholarship ($600) for her digital artwork “Beside the Mudsunk Bay.” This recognition was awarded at the State event in San Marcos on April 25, 2026. Congratulations also to her teacher, Michael Yentzen.
Out of all entries that advanced to State VASE, only about 150 artworks were selected as Gold Seal recipients, representing the highest level of achievement in concept, technique, craftsmanship, and creativity. These works are featured in a traveling exhibition across Texas and highlighted at the annual TAEA Fall Conference.
GISD proudly celebrates three Gold Seal recipients:
De’aric Jones, GHS – “Wishing Whale” (Kiley Mitchell)
Iris Blanton, EVHS – “How Many Buttons Could A Button Button If A Button Could Button Buttons” (Rebecca Hall)
Lola Nicklason, GHS – “Fleas” (Michael Yentzen)
These achievements highlight the excellence of GISD visual arts and the dedication of our students and educators. We are incredibly proud of each of you!

An incredible honor for GISD Fine Arts!
Congratulations to Hannah Harvey, a junior at East View High School, whose artwork “Myself In Transit” has been selected for the First Lady of Texas Governor's Gallery.
Hannah is one of only 13 students across the state of Texas selected for this prestigious recognition. Her artwork will be displayed in the Texas Governor's Mansion for one year.
This outstanding accomplishment highlights the talent, creativity, and dedication of our GISD student artists and the impact of our visual arts programs. Congratulations also to Jon Hanna, EVHS Art Teacher, for supporting and inspiring student excellence.
We are incredibly proud of Hannah and this remarkable achievement!
YOU CAN DO BOTH — Success looks different for everyone.
Across GISD, students are writing their own stories—on the court, on the field, on the stage, and in the classroom. This week’s spotlight features middle and high school students involved in basketball, track, choir, baseball, orchestra, band, tennis, art, soccer, and archery—each one balancing their passions in a way that works for them.
There’s no single path to success. For some, it’s early mornings and late rehearsals. For others, it’s finding rhythm between competition and creativity. However it looks, our students continue to prove that dedication, passion, and opportunity can go hand in hand.
New students. New stories. Every week.
Which path are you creating for yourself?

A fantastic week at UIL for our GISD bands!
Students from EVHS and GHS delivered outstanding performances at the UIL Concert and Sightreading Evaluation, showcasing their hard work, preparation, and musicianship.
At EVHS, all ensembles earned strong ratings, with the Wind Ensemble receiving Superior ratings on stage and in sight-reading, earning a Sweepstakes.
At GHS, all three bands earned unanimous Superior ratings, marking the first time since 2009 that every ensemble received straight 1's—an incredible milestone.
We are proud of these students and directors for representing GISD Fine Arts with excellence.
Mark your calendars and come support these incredible musicians:
• GHS Spring Concert – May 13 at 6:30 PM (PAC), featuring music from Star Wars with a full audio and visual experience
• EVHS Final Band Concert – May 19 at 7:00 PM (PAC)
YOU CAN DO BOTH! Every passion has a place.
Not every student fits into just one category—and in GISD, they don’t have to.
From band and basketball to ROTC, choir, health science, and ceramics, students are building their own unique paths—combining interests, talents, and goals in ways that work for them.
It’s not about choosing one thing. It’s about showing up for all the things that matter.

YOU CAN DO BOTH!
Chase your passions on the field, on the stage, and everywhere in between.
What does it look like when students refuse to be put in just one box?
In this week’s feature, GISD students are showing up in band, orchestra, choir, dance, Georgettes, yearbook, and culinary—while also competing in powerlifting, volleyball, and FFA.
It’s early mornings. Late practices. Rehearsals, games, performances, and projects—all woven together.
And somehow, they make it work.
Not by choosing one path—but by committing to the things that matter most to them.
