These beads are carved from the tagua nut, also called Vegetable Ivory. They are made from the dried seedpod of the Tagua Palm tree (Phytelephas macrocarpa) that grows in the rainforests of South America. Tagua nut is found in Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Panama, Brazil. It is sustainably harvested from the forest floor when the cabeza containing the nuts ripens and falls. The beads are dyed with natural dyes.
