The race in Martin, Mich., was the first time many of us had a chance to visit this cool and historic facility, but for Lane Gortney — an important part of the crew on Doug Duell's Stanfield Racing Engines-powered DLD Motorsports Dodge Challenger Drag Pak — returning to US 131 Motorsports Park was like coming home.

"I grew up racing here with my dad [Ryan Gortney, of The Wheelie Wagon fame]," said Lane. "We bracket raced, and my dad did really well in points here. He would run his wheelstander at all the big shows, and that was awesome. I'm 30 now, so it's really cool to have an NHRA race at this track and be working on a car — it's kind of like a full-circle moment."

UPDATE: The rain that began just prior to the semifinals at US 131 Motorsports Park halted racing action with David Janac and Lee Hartman, along with opponents Raymond Nash and David Davies II, still in competition. An unfavorable forecast for the next two days have bumped the conclusion of the Great Lakes Nationals Factory Stock Showdown competition to the NHRA Midwest Nationals, October 2-4, at World Wide Technology Raceway Park outside of St. Louis. We wanted to see our portion of this great event concluded here, but it was not meant to be. The Pros are still trying to work with Mother Nature, and hopefully there will be a Pro Stock trophy coming home to Louisiana tomorrow..... wish our boys luck!

Unfortunately, rain drops and racetracks don't mix — and that was precisely what we were faced with this evening as we were juuuuuust about to run the semifinals. The cars have been sent back to the pits, and racing has been canceled for the night. We'll rally in the morning. Thanks for sticking with us!

Lee Hartman's killer 7.603, 182.70 in the second round was paired with a .011 reaction time while opponent Rouven Dawson went red by -.020. The driver of the Carrier Services Group Dodge Drag Pak advances to a semifinals meeting with Raymond Nash — and on the other side of the ladder, his Stanfield Racing Engines teammate David Janac also advanced as young Matt Hartman was .002 at the hit but slowed to an 8.333 with a wheelstanding launch. Janac, who went 7.651, 180.36, will race David Davies II in the semis.

There will be at least one Drag Pak in the final, but Janac is carrying the banner for Ford full of intent. Who's heading to the final at the Dodge Great Lakes Nationals? Stay tuned!

Round one winners! Lee Hartman's strong 7.616, 181.31 in the Carrier Services Group Drag Pak topped Kyle Pawuk's 7.779, and he'll race Rouven Dawson in the second act. Hartman's son Matt and the family COPO were unchallenged when James Betz could not make the call. Young Hartman went 7.739, 179.71 in his victory lap and will square off with David Janac and the Janac Brother's Cobra Jet in the second round, thereby assuring a Stanfield Racing Engines car advances to the semifinals. Janac's bold 7.711 and 180.29 was also unchallenged when Taylor Dietsch turned it red by -.0003.

Two rounds of qualifying have set the field, and with Lee Hartman starting from the No. 1 spot here at the inaugural Dodge NHRA Great Lakes Nationals at historic US 131 Motorsports Park, he'll square off with second-gen Factory Stock Showdown racer Kyle Pawuk, who pilots the Drag Pak his father, Mark Pawuk wheeled to the championship.

Ricky Hord, in his Maximum Effort Racing Team COPO, is on the same side of the ladder and starting from the No. 9 position. He'll race Rouven Dawson (COPO).

In a Dodge Drag Pak vs. Dodge Drag Pak meeting, Doug Duell is starting 12th in his DLD Motorsports entry and racing Raymond Nash in the opening round, while Scott Libersher (COPO) and Mark Pawuk (Drag Pak) round out one side of the ladder.

On the other side:

No. 11 David Janac will bring the Janac Brothers Racing Cobra Jet Mustang up for a match with young Taylor Dietsch (Cobra Jet).

Matt Hartman is starting 14th in his Hartman Racing/Carrier Services Group COPO, and he's set to meet with Cobra Jet Mustang campaigner James Betz. David Davies II (fresh off a national record for speed at 185.72 in his Drag Pak) and Mike Lloyd (COPO) will go toe-to-toe, as will Alex Anderson (COPO) and incoming points leader Jonathan Allegrucci (Cobra Jet).

Our drivers are out there making some season-best runs with Stanfield Racing Engines power, and now we're set to chase an NHRA 75th anniversary Diamond Wally here in Martin, Michigan. Let's go, boys! Round one coming up after the pros!

NHRA NHRA Factory Stock Showdown

Congratulations to Lee Hartman, who drove his Carrier Services Group Dodge Challenger Drak Pak to a national record-setting 7.558 at 182.56 mph. With the record came Hartman's first No. 1 qualifier award of the season and first since Bristol last year. Congratulations to the Hartman Racing team!

Well, goooood morning from US 131 Motorsports Park! The Flexjet NHRA Factory Stock Showdown is set for launch at 9:30 a.m. this morning. Our first hit will be Q1, then we'll roll into Q2 shortly thereafter.... and then.... wait for it...... eliminations will begin midday and the plan is to finish TODAY! With wet weather on the way tomorrow, this schedule should give us our best chance to get the race in, and our plan in the Stanfield Racing Engines camp is to go all the way. It'll be a full and fast day, and we are HERE FOR IT! Stay tuned.
