It’s harder to investigate a link you get by text message. Scammers know this. Avoid following links in emails or text—navigate there yourself.

New scams keep coming, but most scammers use the old tricks. Keep your eyes open for unexpected senders, grammatical errors, and shortened links.

Here’s a real life screen shot of a banking smish received lately and shared by permission (with a few bits removed). Note that the domain isn’t related to Bank of America like the scam claims. How many red flags can you spot?

‘Tis the season to be spending. Many people are buying gifts and party supplies this time of year, so spending can be less predictable. Scammers sometimes claim accounts are locked and urge targets to follow their link to restore them. Don’t be fooled!
