As a family-owned, values-driven company, nothing is more important during these challenging times than the health and well-being of our employees, customers and greater communities. For that reason, we are closing all U.S. retail locations beginning midnight tonight through March 29. This will include our Flagship stores in Freeport, marking only the fifth time in our company’s history that this location will close (and the first time ever for more than 24 hours). All store employees will receive pay and benefits during the closure.

By making this decision now, we can better ensure the safety of our employees and customers, as we all continue to navigate a rapidly evolving situation and follow the CDC’s guidelines around the importance of social distancing. Rest assured, our teams working across operations – including our home agent service representatives – are following strict CDC guidelines, including practicing safe working distances and adhering to additional cleaning protocols.

Maine is more than just a place to us; it's our home, our community, our family, and our identity.

The state’s iconic landscape – from the mountains to the coastline – serves as inspiration to us daily. As do the hard-working and caring communities who make up our great state. It’s why our purpose is to inspire and enable people to experience the restorative power of being outside.

As Maine begins to recover from the tragedy in Lewiston, we are committed to providing community and connection – for each other and to the outdoors. We will start by reopening our retail locations in Freeport on Saturday, October 28. We are also in the process of determining how best to support and honor those impacted in our community. In the meantime, we will continue holding onto love and coming together to support Lewiston and Maine.

The tragic events in Lewiston last night have shocked and saddened all of us at L.L.Bean. Out of an abundance of caution, L.L.Bean’s Freeport-based stores will be closed today, Thursday, October 26. Our Lewiston and Brunswick Manufacturing Facilities, Freeport Order Fulfillment Center, Returns Buildings, Photo Studio and Corporate Headquarters will also be closed. Our priority is, and will remain, the health and safety of our employees and customers.

Maine is more than just a place to us; it’s our home, our community, and our family. Our hearts and thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy in our beloved state. We urge all of our neighbors to stay safe and look out for one another while we process these events together.
