This week’s Spotlight shines on Kendon Bauer again, this time from his parents’ perspective on the Hawg Performance and Breen Strength program.

Kendon has been training with Shannon since his freshman year at Linganore, and his growth on the offensive line has been undeniable ever since. His dad Eric talked about how Kendon started as a raw ninth grade lineman and developed his footwork, line sets, and overall technique through both personal and group training with Shannon. That development helped power a Lancers offensive line that went undefeated and captured a seventh straight state title last season.

But the impact goes beyond football. Eric pointed to the accountability Shannon builds in his athletes, covering schoolwork, personal life, health, and nutrition, not just what happens on the field. Kendon’s mom Laura shared how Shannon played a key role in the college recruitment process, drawing on his own path from playing in Frederick County to college ball to the pros to coaching at the college level. That guidance helped Kendon field close to ten Division 1 FBS offers, including Indiana, Virginia Tech, and Maryland, before committing to Maryland.

At 6’7” and 335 pounds, Kendon is heading to the University of Maryland this fall as a football commit, and the Hawg Performance and Breen Strength family could not be prouder of everything he has built along the way.

This week we’re pulling back the curtain to introduce you to one of the people who makes it all run, our trainer Eric Carter.

Eric just graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College this past May with a degree in exercise science. He chose that path because he genuinely loves watching young athletes grow, whether that’s their speed, their strength, their power, or their mobility.

His story with Hawg actually goes back years. Eric started training under Coach Breen back in ninth grade and stuck with it all the way through college. Coach Breen helped him land several college offers along the way, and Eric ended up playing for the WVWC Bobcats as an offensive lineman. He was a three year team captain and started for two and a half seasons.

After graduating, Eric came right back to Hawg, but this time on the other side of things. He spent a year interning under Coach Breen and has since become a full time member of the team.

Now Eric works with athletes ranging from fifth grade all the way up to college. With the younger kids, the focus is on coordination, speed, agility, and learning proper lifting technique. As they get older and start progressing, that shifts into building real power, strength, and speed.

If there’s one thing Eric takes seriously, it’s form. Lifting with bad form or bad positioning is how injuries and muscle imbalances happen, so he’s always in the gym correcting technique and making sure his athletes move the right way.

But more than anything, Eric wants his athletes to keep showing up. Messing up is part of the process. Quitting isn’t.

This week we welcome Aiden Kim to the Spotlight.

Aiden is a center and defensive tackle for Oakdale High School’s Boys Varsity football team, Class of 2028. Standing 5’9” and 220 pounds, Aiden may not be the biggest guy on the line, but he makes up for it with fundamentals.

He came to Hawg to sharpen his technique and has seen major gains since starting, putting up a 255 pound bench press, a 500 pound squat, and a 205 pound clean max. Aiden also competed in the HCC JV Invitational, throwing the 12 pound shot put 28 feet 5.25 inches.

In his own words, Aiden says the biggest improvement has been in his fundamentals since he started training with Shannon. He credits the atmosphere at Hawg for pushing him further, saying he loves working alongside guys from other schools and feeding off Shannon’s attitude in the gym. Aiden’s advice to other athletes is simple: it doesn’t matter if you’re the tallest or the strongest, you just have to work on your fundamentals.

Aiden recommends Hawg to every athlete looking to build a stronger foundation, no matter their size.
