Team Member Spotlight: We are so proud of our Team Member Bailey. Yesterday a regular customer and caretaker for a local farm, Paul, came into her store panicked. He brought a severely hypothermic goat kid birthed the previous day. The temperatures in northern Illinois had dropped to single digits, and a momma goat had dropped the newly born kid outside. Paul was unaware of the new arrival, and when he got back to check on the animals, he found the half frozen kid.

Paul drove over to our store and begged us for help as he couldn't get ahold of their livestock veterinarian. The goat laid lifeless, unable to lift his head and cold to the touch. Team Member Bailey got right to work. She quickly put together a heat lamp secured to a folding chair in the break room with some towels on the ground. She grabbed some colostrum and a bottle off the shelf, warmed up some water making a milky mixture and filled a bottle. Bailey began rubbing the goat to warm up. This went on for 2-3 hours while Paul left to fix the heat in the barn to warm up the animals. Bailey kept attempting to get the little guy to take the bottle. Much to our surprise, “Baby Hal” came back to life thanks to Bailey’s determination and care. By the time Paul came back, Hal was able to stand on his own and was suckling. Paul was so happy and thankful. He laughed and agreed to keep the name “Hal”.

We are so proud of our team member Bailey. Without her quick thinking and kindness, the little guy could have perished. Thank you Bailey for your dedication to your local community.
