Public Service Announcement: Several times this week we were contacted by individuals who had home business and were being audited by the State of Arkansas for sales tax issues. Many of these individuals were not collecting or remitting sales tax and were unaware that this was a requirement. This is not a defense to the obligation of sales tax collections and you will be personally responsible for the entire sum of sales tax that you should have collected and remitted to the State.
Please be aware that in Arkansas all business whether registered with the State or not must collect and remit sales tax. The State of Arkansas has made audit of home businesses a priority and will continue to be auditing home business. Therefore if you have a home business and have not registered with the State you should do so immediately. The application fee is $50 and will allow you to purchase items sale for resale (tax free), which will benefit you in your home business.
If you have been contacted already and need assistance with the audit please contact our office.
