Wooden Indians of Today
In another time the storefront was guarded by two Wooden Indians.
Stately, they stood to welcome all comers to the General Store
Alas, time took its toll as it does in many small towns
The Wooden Indians were removed, stored in an old barn far out of town
The old store closed, doors and windows boarded left to memories of that time spent in service to the town
These days the old store has been transformed into a shop for lookers and pickers
Some say it's a Gift Shop, others a Past Treasure's store, or a shop full of stuff(junk)
Odd thing is, that on must days you will find husbands near the entrance
Yes, sitting on a Husband Benches where yesteryear door guardians once stood
So here our two sit, waiting with some patience, an equal amount of frustration, and a dash of annoyance
It seems time has no limit when a wife is on the hunt for: who knows, for what or for why
The faces of the Wooden Indians of old could not compare to these two expressions
At least today, this shop is on the shady side of the street
Watching the street scene play out in front of them
These two it seems have developed Husband Bench sitting into somewhat of an art form
Sometimes a simple nod of the head at a displayed event brings laughter
Other times there will be a trigger happening that stirs an old joint memory
Either way it appears that these two old curmudgeons can enjoy such an ordeal, somewhat
But they will never let on, grumbling each time the wives move on to the next shop
Now holding a bag or two they sit, and the process is repeated
Such is the way a morning is spent on a Husband Bench
They forge on, waiting just as the Wood Indians at a door of a store
Hopefully our two will not be moved to an old barn to gather dust someday
There's something so beautiful 💫 about knowing that her work will continue to bring joy and delight to so many!
Our deepest thanks go to Eleisha at Lamberk for helping us see this through and to Moe at Farmhouse Finds Fort Payne for dedicating the project to our dear friend.

A delightfully shabby chic addition to downtown Fort Payne selling Antiques and reclaimed furniture. Hope to see you soon!
Owned and operated by Moe, a quick witted female veteran, determined to make the most of her encore years by opening a delightfully shabby chic home decor shop in downtown Fort Payne, Alabama. Her lifelong passion of turning junk into treasure sparked the creation of this delightful little shop where you will find her swoon worthy recycled products that have, almost by magic, been turned into eleg

Well I returned to my shop today and Jeannee has done a fabulous job. The changes made me beyond happy to see the shop in a new light....from the time you open the door you are bathed in the aroma of handmade candles and the lightning is new, creative and downright gorgeous. Her beautiful photos are of just about everything in our area with special thought given to farms. Local cotton and old whitewashed barns and rusted pickups....a must see. Jeannee plans to hold candle making workshops....these candles are works of art. So glad she has has the shop. I wish her the very best and ask all if you stop in and see what a great eye she has for the beauty of this area. Moe
