🏖️ A Familiar Sight Is Back on Fort Myers Beach
If you've been to Fort Myers Beach recently, you may have noticed something many locals have been waiting to see.

The 7-Eleven across from the Lani Kai has officially reopened after being destroyed by Hurricane Ian.

The store reopened on June 18, 2026, with its official grand opening taking place on Friday - June 26, 2026.

For many, it was more than just a convenience store- it was a familiar stop for coffee before work, drinks for the beach, late-night snacks, and a landmark that had been part of Estero Boulevard for years.

Its return is another reminder of how far Fort Myers Beach has come, while recognizing there's still more rebuilding ahead.

📈 LEE COUNTY'S ROAD TO 1 MILLION RESIDENTS:
Lee County is approaching a population milestone that only a handful of Florida counties have reached.

Today, nearly 900,000 permanent residents call Lee County home. Population forecasts from regional planning organizations and local economic development agencies indicate the county is expected to continue growing in the years ahead. While projections vary, many estimates suggest Lee County could surpass 1 million permanent residents sometime between the 2030s and 2040.

If that happens, Lee County would become just the sixth county in Florida to exceed 1 million residents.

Currently, only five Florida counties have populations above 1 million:
📍 Miami-Dade County – approximately 2.8 million residents
📍 Broward County – approximately 2.0 million residents
📍 Palm Beach County – approximately 1.6 million residents
📍 Hillsborough County – approximately 1.6 million residents
📍 Orange County – approximately 1.5 million residents

For perspective, Lee County had fewer than 500,000 residents around the year 2000. In roughly a quarter century, the county has nearly doubled in population.

Population growth is driven primarily by migration from other parts of Florida and from other states. The increase is reflected in new residential communities, commercial development, healthcare expansion, infrastructure projects, and business investment throughout Southwest Florida.

It's also important to note that official population figures represent permanent residents only. Seasonal residents, snowbirds, and visitors are not included in census population totals, meaning the number of people physically present in Lee County during peak season is often substantially higher.

As Lee County continues to grow, it remains one of the fastest-growing regions in Florida and one of the most closely watched counties in the state from a demographic standpoint.
