I'm Looking forward to starting College at plaza
Proud of the Queens Chamber of Commerce' oldest serving member (since 1916), Plaza College!

Thank you to Professor Mindy Perlish and Plaza College for allowing me to sit in and observe your court reporting class today through the web. It was very well done. Hoping to see your students soon out in the field. Thanks again!
Thanks to Plaza College and Professor Reid Goldsmith for allowing me to sit in on your class through your online we**am system. I found it very interesting. You're doing a great job in teaching future court reporters.
I am a reentry student and was super nervous about returning to school after so many years. Thankfully I had the pleasure to work with Jennifer Lee who made herself always available and worked around my busy work schedule to encourage me to finish my degree! She made me feel at ease with the whole process and I am actually pretty excited to start my semester. Thank you Jennifer and Plaza college for allowing me to succeed in life!
I HATE COLLEGE WEBSITES THAT DO NOT POST ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS A VISITOR TO THE SITE LOOKS FOR - TUITION! Makes me think I will probably ignore this place and automatically stick to SUNY and CUNY schools even if their HIT programs are only online, but maybe it is worth going for the BS over the AAS. At least you can find their tuition.
I'm going to miss being a student #classof2019 I will forever love Plaza #paralegals

The Anna S. Callahan award is established in memory of Plaza’s co-founder. She and her husband, Charles E. Callahan, Sr. first established the institution in 1916. The individual receiving this award is voted by the faculty as most likely to represent the mission and values of Plaza College by devoting themselves to the betterment of the community. The winner of this award has clearly brought to others, Anna’s spirit of kindness, generosity, and love of learning.

Congratulations to 2021 winner, CJ Gray!
Words by CJ are below.

“I am speechless, and I cannot begin to express how deeply honored and grateful I am.

To be considered for an award established in memory of Plaza College co-founder Anna S. Callahan is a great honor and privilege, so I sincerely thank the Board of Trustees, President Callahan, Chief Callahan, The Callahan Family, Administration and Faculty for this award.

As a recipient of this award, I vow to continually improve as a person and student to ensure that I continue to represent and display the kindness, generosity, and love of learning of the great Anna S. #PeopleofPlaza: Anthony D. is currently a Court Reporting student with the goal to finish his coursework by the end of this year. Anthony was inspired to pursue this career path after observing his sister who has worked in this profession for a long time. “She lives an incredible life working and traveling. I thought to myself I want that life. At one point she took a month off from work and traveled to Australia.” So far, his most memorable experience at Plaza College has been working with the faculty who he says are incredible. “Every teacher is so influential and motivating. They all care about the students so much.”

When it comes to leveraging his education into his career skills, Anthony explains that, “every element of practice and study goes into what you do as a Court Reporter. How you apply yourself will dictate how you do in the field. All students should practice every element of the coursework and apply it all. I want to be the best I can in this field.” He currently has been practicing a lot of car accident dictations and medical terminology which is the most challenging saying that, “when you make time to work on the hard stuff everything else comes easier.”

Professor Perlish says, “Anthony typifies all the traits of an exceptional student. He is professional, hard-working, and he always maintained excellent grades and attendance. Those familiar with court reporting know that it takes untold and immeasurable hours of practice to hone our skills. I have rarely met a student who ‘likes’ to practice. Anthony also liked to ask a lot of questions related to what we were doing at the time. I feel this was driven by his intelligent, inquisitive nature and the fact that he cared a lot and wanted to get things right. It was a privilege to have him in my classes, and I know that he will be a stellar addition to any area of court reporting that he chooses to work in.”

#PeopleofPlaza: Iryna B. is currently a Dental Hygiene student in Cohort 5 completing her Associate’s Degree in Fall 2021.

Iryna had multiple inspirations that led her to pursue her current studies. “My entire family consists of veterinarians and while living in the Ukraine I worked in Human Resources for Colgate-Palmolive. My role led me to interact with dentists to support the marketing department. Upon coming to the United States I became friends with a dental hygienist who inspired me to go into this career field. I’ve always had a passion for studying and learning. I previously received a Master’s Degree in teaching while in the Ukraine and dental hygiene incorporates the opportunity to be an educator when it comes to instructing a patient on best practices in oral health.”

Her most memorable experience at Plaza College was seeing Cohort 4 in their scrubs and talking to one of the students in the library. “She was a role model for me and so nice to talk to. I was her patient and brought my cohort peers to be her patients as well. Whoever approaches me from Cohort 6 I’ll always be open to helping them.” Iryna envisions her career trajectory to start in the clinical field and eventually also go into corporate. She would like to work as a representative for Unilever or Colgate-Palmolive to promote products given that she has knowledge from both sides of dentistry.

#PeopleofPlaza: Ms. Hernandez is a student in the Medical Assisting Program and currently in her second semester. Her inspiration to pursue the Medical Assisting major came from her grandmother (who worked at Elmhurst Hospital for over 25 years) and her mother in law (who currently works at Cohen Children’s Medical Center at Northwell Health).

Ms. Hernandez and her family have been consistent supporters of the Northwell Health community attending the annual five mile fundraising walk at Jones Beach for many years. “I’ve also been doing the Breast Cancer and Colon Cancer walk after witnessing both my parents go through cancer. When my grandma was diagnosed with diabetes I was giving her insulin and helping her with medical treatments. It was then when my husband suggested I should attend school for this.” Dr. Zhou shares, “Ms. Hernandez was my previous student in the clinical class of the Medical Assisting Program. She was excellent in her professionalism and dedicated to her studies. Her academic performance was also great.”

#PeopleofPlaza: Cassandra S.'s realization that Plaza College's Career Pathways Program would be a great opportunity for her was only the first of many proven successes in her college journey. She not only earned her High School Equivalency diploma and Associate's degree, she graduated from Plaza with her Bachelor's degree as well. Now, as a soon-to-be MBA graduate, she tells us of her journey.

"Plaza College gave me an opportunity that I am thankful for. I started getting better at a lot of things, I started growing, I started seeing new opportunities and I started thinking differently.

I am an entrepreneur, resilient, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a woman that has been underestimated and put down in every means. There's more to my story but that will be later in a book.
I'm proud of myself, I will be an MBA graduate this year. I am also working on a couple of businesses, my business license, driver's and more. Setting a foundation for my babies. I'm blessed and thankful for my babies everyday because they are my purpose and reason 💓"
