What a day on the water! 🚣🎣
Our Canoemobile field trip gave our group the opportunity to get outside, explore nature, and experience learning in a whole new way.
The day was filled with teamwork, adventure, and hands-on discovery. Along the way, everyone learned more about local waterways, the environment, and the importance of protecting our natural resources.
These are the kinds of experiences that build confidence, create memories, and remind us that some of the best learning happens outside the classroom.
A day of fresh air, new skills, and plenty of fun—what could be better?

We’ve been partnering with Michigan State Extension to focus on teamwork, communication, and leadership skills 💪
Through team-building activities and challenges, our group has been learning how to problem solve together, support one another, and build stronger connections.
These moments help develop skills that go far beyond academics—and create a stronger community along the way.

Last Friday, our group attended the Student Summit at Kettering University 🎤
The day was filled with opportunities to learn, connect, and explore new ideas alongside others from across the community.
Experiences like this help build confidence, encourage leadership, and remind young people that their voices and ideas matter.
Learning becomes even more powerful when it extends beyond the classroom and into the world around us.

We’re making the most of the final weeks of the year 🌎
This week, our group will be visiting the State Capitol and going canoeing—two experiences that combine learning, exploration, and adventure.
And next week, we’ll wrap things up with a fishing trip at Ligon 🎣
As the last day on Friday, June 5 approaches, we’re reflecting on all the growth, experiences, and memories made throughout the year.
Ending the year the same way we spent it: learning through experience.

Some of the best learning happens outside the classroom walls 🌎
We have several exciting experiences coming up, including:
🎣 Fishing at Ligon
🏛 Visiting the State Capitol
🎤 Attending the Student Summit at Kettering
These experiences give our group opportunities to explore new environments, build relationships, ask questions, and connect learning to the real world.
Education should inspire curiosity—and we’re excited for what’s ahead.

Learning looks different here—and that’s intentional 💡
At 2nd Street Learning, we use project-based and place-based learning to make education meaningful, hands-on, and connected to the real world.
That means learning doesn’t only happen at a desk. It happens through experiences, community connections, problem solving, collaboration, and exploration.
Whether it’s visiting local organizations, conducting water testing, learning financial literacy, or participating in science experiences, young people are actively engaging with the world around them while building academic and life skills at the same time.
When learning feels relevant, engagement grows—and so does confidence.

Graduation is more than a ceremony—it’s a story of perseverance, growth, and determination 🎓
This year, our graduates have overcome obstacles, setbacks, and challenges that could have easily caused them to give up. Instead, they kept showing up, kept pushing forward, and reached this milestone through hard work and resilience.
At 2nd Street Learning, we believe education should meet young people where they are while helping them discover where they can go.
Every success story looks different, and that’s what makes this moment so meaningful.
We’re incredibly proud of all they’ve accomplished—and even more excited for what comes next.

Detectives for the day 🕵️‍♀️🕵️‍♂️
During Super Science Friday at UM Flint, our learners used real investigative skills to solve a crime.
They examined handwriting samples, compared hair follicles, studied clothing fibers, learned about blood evidence, and matched fingerprints.
Using teamwork, observation, and critical thinking… they solved the case!
This is what active learning looks like.

The learning continued with UM Flint’s Doctorate of Physical Therapy program 💪
Our group learned about casting, physical therapy, and injury care through hands-on activities.
They practiced putting on casts, experienced what it feels like to wear one, and learned how casts are safely removed.
Experiences like this open doors to future careers and help young people imagine what’s possible.

Last week our group had an incredible experience at UM Flint’s Super Science Friday 🔬
They learned how bruises are formed, the different stages of healing, and even how bruises are created for plays and movies using theatrical makeup.
It was the perfect mix of science, creativity, and hands-on learning—showing how classroom concepts connect to real careers and real life.
Learning becomes unforgettable when it’s interactive - and this was one unforgettable experience!
