I have so many stories to share! So here's one tale from last week. It was my pleasure to help the St. Louis Shrinners Chanters last week. As an organization they have given so much to our community. Many of these folks have spent their whole lives giving to those in need I was honored to meet several of these gentlemen and ladies. They recently sent their antique tables from the St Louis Temple to the private homes of members, I delivered 5 of these tables to homes in South County, West County and Chicago. These weren't just any tables, no they had been serving the temple for years and they had been hand built by members 60 years ago from wood salvaged from sinking ships and cast off from ship wrecks. They were beautiful heavy monsters all bearing tribute to the ship from which it came. All these Shrinners I worked with this past week are getting up there in age and listening to their stories and being invited into their homes was a privilege. One raised 10 kids, 8 adopted almost all with special needs. I was blessed to read, The Family Nobody Wanted years ago if you haven't read it find it and enjoy! Another was showing me his home and where he was putting his table and we discovered in our conversation that we had both been trained to fly by the same flight instructor! Lou Sexauer, yes I was taught how to fly by Lou and we miss him. Lou was a veteran of WWII who made a name locally in St Louis in aviation, in 1997 he taught me to fly down at the Perryville Airport that he owned. Somewhere roughly 40 or so years earlier Lou has been the company pilot where Monty worked and Monty had joked that the company pilot used to fall asleep so folks that needed to travel in the company plane with Lou all learned how to fly from him. When Monty mentioned the company pilot falling asleep my mind went back to Lou he fell asleep more than a couple of times on me. So I mentioned learning from Lou and we realized we were talking about the same person! I can understand Lou teaching them all too fly, the first time I went to meet Lou he didn't give me a book to read, he took me on a walk around and said lets go. That first moment he looked at me and said we'll get your hands on the stick, you won't learn by watching you have to be doing. Man I miss him.
