My summer hiatus is coming to an end. Here’s what I made just before closing shop for 8 weeks.

The quilts were all custom orders. The bags were for my daughter’s dance class as end of season gifts. They’re the perfect size for dance shoes and a water bottle. 💜

I made 2 new friends yesterday and had the time of my life! Kassiah and Susan are incredible people to hang out with. I learned a lot and finally have a bag for myself that I made myself! Detailed pics pending. I still need to attach the straps!

Short story (Just kidding. I don't know how to tell short stories):

I started watching YouTube videos awhile ago. I found bag makers I liked, watched their tutorials, searched their past videos to learn specific techniques, etc. YouTube was and still is a classroom for me. One channel I found became a fast favorite and I joined the coordinating facebook group. About a week after joining, I saw a post about the channel host, Kassiah, and her sister, Susan, deciding to go on tour and sew with fans in their homes. (What?!) They needed a host for KC/STL so I thought, "Meh. Why not try?" WELL. LUCKY ME! They chose me and they're coming to my house to sew with me in my studio. We are making a couple travel bags together (I got to choose the pattern!) and it's all going on You Tube, some of it live. I'm so super excited! Also I'm nervous. So I'm sharing and then promptly pretending I didn't, so I don't think about how many people might be watching.

We bought a minivan 😱. The steering wheel was rough so we decided to just get a cover for it. But *then*, I decided to sew one on myself because why not? 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Cover is genuine leather.

This was fun! (I say that every time. But it was!)

Two things.

1. How do you work on a project for 8 months and forget to take photos when it’s finished?! Don’t ask me.

2. Turning leather jackets into bags might be one of the coolest things I know how to do.

Duffel bag and zipper clutch are upcycled genuine leather. Interior is cotton (for a huge NBC fan). There’s a matching drawstring bag for her tap shoes, but no photo 😭🤦🏻‍♀️

This project was a group gift for my daughters’ dance teacher, who opened her own studio this year. How fun is a leather dance bag set?! If you’re local and need a dance instructor, Rhythm In Self Expression - RISE is my top recommendation!

I forgot to share this yesterday. It was a lot of fun to make this bag from a faux leather jacket!

This was a custom order. I was given a faux leather jacket that was beyond repair and asked to make it a useable bag of some kind. This is the result. I added faux leather to the exterior. Interior is waterproof canvas, pocket lining is original jacket lining. This was FUN!

Bag is approximately 18x20x5

This bag was a fun experiment! The lining fabrics were chosen by the recipient. Each color represents a Taylor Swift album. We used scraps of fabrics I already had but liked the idea so much, we purchased better prints the next day. Stay tuned for those!

This representation art is a whole thing amongst “Swifties”. They’re making quilts, spreadsheets, gallery prints, you name it. It’s really fun to see! Last photo is a list of Taylor’s albums and the colors that represent them.

Jennifer Lynn with a twist! This crossbody is navy and white faux leather on the outside, with a gray and navy (not pictured) floral cotton on the inside. She’s heading out of state tomorrow!

Sometimes you borrow a purse from your first customer because you spend your time designing and sewing for everyone else and find yourself without an appropriate bag for a special occasion.

Today was a prep day. Lots of cutting and labeling.

You’re not seeing double. This lady is popular! I’m formally introducing, Telsa. Not the car, the classic, chic, work best friend with padded interior pockets and just enough shimmer to add some pep in your step, especially on a cloudy Monday. I’ve had multiple orders for this one, so you’ll be seeing more!

High contrast is one of my favorite ways to play with color. Just look at the pop!

My four year old assistant convinced me to shop at the fabric store today. I’ll post a sneak peek later on!

Who likes to sparkle? This beauty is finished AND it has pockets!

-Two slip pockets for a phone, pens, etc
-One padded slip pocket for a tablet/kindle
-Addition slip pocket for papers in front of the padded pocket

And there’s still room after that to toss in your necessities and whatever else you carry around.

Straps are extra long for a comfortable fit just above the hip.

Base is approximately 12x4.5. The top tapers up to about 15.5”.

Sometimes bags get worked on in the parent pickup line at school.

Refusing to use pre-made patterns has its disadvantages. But the victory line I’m about to cross will be 100% worth it. Stay tuned!
