Look what our technician Jonathan found in Elbow Lake today! The largest native moth in North America! A cecropia moth is in the silk moth family. They have wingspans that can reach 5-7" wide. Due to the fact the adult moths lack operational mouths and digestive tracts they only live about two weeks. They emerge from their cocoons after the first two, warm weeks of summer. Keep your eyes out near maple, cherry and birch trees and you too may catch a glimpse of these rare beauties!
