At this week’s City Council meeting, I introduced my proposed 2027-28 Biennial Budget for the Council and community to review.

This proposed budget is structurally balanced, includes no new taxes, fully funds reserves and provides cost-of-living adjustments for staff while continuing to fund essential services for our community.

You can make your voice heard at one of our upcoming budget meetings, which will be held at 5 p.m. at City Hall on the following dates: Sept. 21, Sept. 24, Oct. 6 and Oct. 20. (Additional meetings on Nov. 4 and 17 will be held if needed.)

I was honored to join the Trap Lab Fitness Studio for last week’s ribbon cutting at its new location on SW Dash Point Road.

Trap Lab has been in our community for four years and is building a fitness community where people can feel welcome, encouraged and confident!

I was joined by some of our city council members at Rainfest today. It was fun seeing families enjoying fun activities while also learning about sustainability and supporting a healthier environment!

Thank you to everyone who showed up, volunteered and helped make sustainability a priority here in Federal Way.

And I want to say an extra thank you to our Environmental Services team who made this all happen!

Today, I was honored to attend the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony hosted by South King Fire.

Hearing the moving words from Federal Way Police Department Chief Andy Hwang, South King Fire Chief Ryan Woodey, and Des Moines Police Department Chief Ted Boe was a powerful reminder of the courage, sacrifice and service that define our first responders.

After 25 years, the weight of September 11 remains. We will never forget.

Today, we honor and remember the courageous first responders who put their lives on the line to save others.

On this Patriot Day, I invite our Federal Way community to pause for a moment of silence in remembrance of those we lost on September 11, 2001.

Please join us this afternoon at 1 p.m. at South King Fire Station 64, located at 3700 S. 320th Street, for a community gathering of reflection and tribute.

We will never forget.

I joined some of our city council members today on a tour of the Seattle Children’s clinic here in Federal Way.

Seattle Children’s has been in Federal Way for more than 10 years, and its continued expansion of its footprint in our city, and in the region as a whole, means big things for the families in our communities.

Healthier kids lead to healthier communities, and Seattle Children’s is making that a reality.

I joined King County Metro Transit staff, King County Executive Girmay Zahilay and Auburn Mayor Nancy Bachus at the Auburn Transit Center today for a ribbon cutting to celebrate King County Metro Transit’s Metro Flex program, which recently came to Federal Way.

The biggest challenge in public transit is the first and last mile. The gap between your front door and the bus stop, or the bus stop and your doctor’s office.

Metro Flex will help our community traverse those first and last miles successfully and connect us all with the rest of the region through our array of great transit options!
