van Zelm Heywood & Shadford, Inc. celebrates National Women in Construction Week. Long a supporter of women in construction, we strive to raise awareness of the opportunities and careers open to women in the design and construction industry. Although women make up about 11% of the construction workforce, we need to attract more women to reflect the society we live in.
Pictured here are the presidents and board members of Professional Women in Construction Connecticut Chapter (PWC CT) taken in November 2006, with Labas, CPSM, Senior Associate and Director of Marketing of van Zelm second from right. PWC is a non-profit organization, whose focus is to support, advance, connect, and promote diversity within the architecture, engineering, construction and related industries. van Zelm was a founding sponsor of the CT Chapter in 2005.

Another project at Dartmouth is almost complete and we are excited to see its progress. The Center for Engineering and Computer Science is an expansion of Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth that focuses on energy, engineering-in-medicine and design. With an expected occupancy soon, they are pursuing LEED Platinum certification. The project scope includes a total of approximately 160,000 SF to support research labs, teaching labs, classrooms, offices, community spaces, and support spaces. The project also includes a 340-vehicle below grade parking garage to address campus wide parking needs. Project included extending electrical and chilled/hot water utilities from the north to west end of campus.

Congratulations to ARC/Architectural Resources Cambridge, Inc. and their teams for winning 6 recent regional and national awards!
