Upcoming event this week

Join us in welcoming Jeremy K. Farrell, Autism Advocate to the library next Thursday, August 1, for his Autism & Parenting presentation!

Jeremy's presentation will be focused on providing insights to parents on the experience of growing up autistic, as well as sharing strategies that can be used with autistic individuals of any age to achieve success.

As a professional autism advocate and proud autistic person, Jeremy has worked with many families of autistic individuals and has helped them by facilitating effective communication and bridging gaps in understanding.

We're looking forward to Jeremy sharing from his unique perspective and learning how families can overcome some common barriers they may be facing.

Our Story

The Network is a group of adoption professionals and adoptive parents who have come together with the vision of forming a collaborative partnership designed to support adoptive and relative caregiver parenting. The concept of the Network originated at a DCF hosted gathering of Connecticut’s adoption community in June 2006. A series of planning meetings ensued with a goal being to identify of the needs of Connecticut’s adoptive and guardianship families. With the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Connecticut Department of Children and Families and the University of CT Health Center Adoption Assistance Program, effective date July 1, 2008, funding was provided to organize and sustain the Connecticut Adoption Community Network (ACN). Specific to the agreement was development of this website intended to facilitate improved communication statewide of adoption and relative caregiver workshops, trainings, support groups, and other information. Funding was also allocated to provide opportunities for organizations working with families to sponsor educational events. Members of the Network gather as a group twice annually at the offices of the Connecticut Association of Foster and Adoptive Families (CAFAP).
