UFCW Local 1445 and UFCW Local 1459 represent 30,000 Stop & Shop grocery workers in New England and stepped up early to support our workers and send a strong message to the company that they were united with Teamsters Local 25. The letter, support page and frequent social media postings did not go unnoticed, and we are grateful for the support. Thank you!

900 Teamster members at a Stop & Shop distribution center in Freetown, Mass., are in negotiations with the company for their next contract. Their contract is set to expire in late March. Right now, Stop & Shop is trying to do the same thing to these Teamsters as they tried to do to us back in 2019 – make them give up their union health care plan.
The company has threatened to close down the distribution center rather than bargain fairly over these members’ access to affordable union health care. The two parties are still in negotiations, and we want them to reach a fair deal as soon as possible. If the Teamsters are able to win a strong contract that protects their union health care, that strengthens all of us. As we go back into negotiations next year, it’s important for the company to know that no union member, whether they’re a Teamster or a UFCW member, deserves to be treated unfairly.
In 2019, Teamsters members showed up to support us at our strike. They refused to cross our picket lines by delivering food to striking stores, and their support helped us get a better deal, faster. Right now, we are declaring our support to these Teamsters workers, so they know that over 30,000 UFCW Stop & Shop members have their back.
By showing Stop & Shop that those members aren’t alone, we’re giving the Teamsters the power they need to reach a fair deal.
We will keep you updated on any progress at the bargaining table, or any actions we can take to show our solidarity. Click here to sign a letter of support to our Teamsters Union family.
