Yesterday Katharine presented to the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) on the topic of “The Future Law Office: Decentralization”. It was a fun and engaging panel where we discussed remote vs. in-person work, IT advances such as ChatGPT in the context of running a law practice, how to manage contract workers, and the pros and cons of outsourcing client intake. It is always a pleasure and an honor to work with other Fellows of the AAML.

Today, Tashina Gorgone enthusiastically led the VTLA Family Law Section in an informal section meeting to discuss back to school issues in cases! Everyone had an informative discussion, and more will come at the VTLA Annual Family Law Seminar on September 21 -- reach out if you have questions about registering!

Maddox and Gerock took a well-deserved day off yesterday to celebrate another great year of amazing colleagues! We annually spend time with one another and our families to simply kick back and de-stress. This year, Julie hosted everyone and MG treated their staff to the ! Thank you to everyone, both in our firm and our community, because you all make it a joy to be a part of this team!

We have big news! Introducing our newest Associate Attorney: Michael Hess! After starting his career on the Hill, Mike attended George Mason Univerity School of Law, and began his career practicing Family Law in Loudoun County. He lives in Arlington with his wife and a couple of what we assume are adorable cats. Please welcome Mike and be on the lookout for him around the Fairfax Courthouse!

On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, Julie Gerock, Dennis Hottell, and William Waller attended the retirement party for the Honorable William T Newman, Jr of the Arlington County Circuit Court. Judge Newman will be missed as a kind, fair, respectful, thoughtful judge. We wish him a whole lot of fun with family and friends in this next chapter.

Last week, paralegal Amy Stidham attended VTLA's first Advanced Paralegal Retreat. This was an opportunity for paralegals from all over the state to get intimate with their role in the practice of family law.
