I happened to be passing by a local Food Bank on Stratford Ave in the South End of Bridgeport this morning around 7am. The line was down the block with people of all ages. This was a reminder to me that summer is a particularly tough time for our food banks. Lots of volunteers go away and/or get busy with summer activities. Please think about donating some non perishable foods to your local food bank this summer. It is desperately needed to keep those shelves full. Our Community Kitchen is in dire need of volunteers to provide dinner (or dinner components) for dates this summer.

We serve up to 50 guests who come to us hungry, and for many of our guests, this will be the only meal they eat that day. Dates where we need meals prepared and delivered:
🍽 July 16 & 23
🍽 August 2, 8, 20 & 27
🍽 September 12, 17 & 24
Please send us an email at [email protected] if you can help. We rely on so many generous volunteers in the community and surrounding area to prepare and donate these meals. This is a fun volunteer opportunity for families, book clubs, friends, clubs, teams, Scouts, etc. We will respond with further details and answer any of your questions. Quick overview of what we need:
- Meal components to feed 50 people and be fully cooked upon drop off
- Drop off at our Community Kitchen at 50 Nichols Street, Fairfield between 9:30am-3:00pm on day of assigned date
- Meal components include a protein main course, a starch, a vegetable, salad & dressing
- Beverages (gallon jugs of tea & lemonade are always welcome)

Just over the Fairfield line is a K-8 public school called Cesar Batalla. An amazing place that is represented by children of 24 countries! Today my COMPASS Fairfield colleagues and I participated in this annual gift giving program for these very needy families. Volunteers from all over our area are involved every year providing basics…. Food store gift cards, uniform shirts, and a gift card for each child so that they will have a present to unwrap on Christmas morning. This is a truly special place, with families coming from some of the most distressed neighborhoods in Bridgeport.
