Today, Councilor Jay Roberson will hold a press conference at 4:30pm at the Official A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club to mark the beginning of this year's 100 Days of Non-Violence initiative. Now in its 8th year, the 100 DNV began from Councilor Roberson's brainstorming to curtail youth violence in the city after a teenager that his wife previously taught in school was killed due to a senseless gun act in 2010.
The 100 DNV is a student-led, adult-guided anti-bullying and violence prevention initiative that inspires a change in social behavior that is commonly associated with urban communities. The initiative begins in the second week of October each year and concludes on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s national holiday in January.
