"For rural students like us, computers mean we are no longer left behind."

Buze, a Grade 8 student, said this to a room of leaders and officials at her school's lab launch. She was just elected to lead the school's first student parliament.

She is not waiting for the future. She is leading toward it.

Big news from Babogaya: 540 students just opened their school's first computer lab.

Sixteen machines, and a room full of new possibility for students for whom this kind of learning was once out of reach.

More from the launch next week.

Lasting change does not arrive from outside. It spreads from neighbor to neighbor.

Last year, 88 women trained as community health educators, then carried what they learned to 888 families: maternal health, child nutrition, disease prevention.

One woman. Ten families. Knowledge that saves lives.

This is not a program we run for communities. It is a program communities run for themselves. We train, we equip, we step back — and then we watch as women who were once students become the teachers their neighbors needed.

This is local leadership doing what we never could on our own.

Last year, 91% of Grade 8 students at Babogaya passed their national exam — up 26% from 2024.

That number didn't happen by accident. Behind it is a child who showed up every day. A parent who enrolled them early. A teacher who believed it was possible long before the results came in.

And a community that decided education was worth fighting for.

This is what dignifying education looks like. Not just access to a classroom — but the belief, the support, and the investment that make staying worth it.

Do you know where our name came from? Poverty is never just one problem, so our response is never just one program.

Health. Education. Income. These are our three roots — and they're where our name comes from. When the three work together, families build something that lasts — and they lead it themselves.

This week we shared Abay's story — a mother who saved, trained as a health educator, and paid for clean water at her own home. And Abebe's — a pastor who walked into the water bureau, advocated for his community, and heard yes. Two people. Three roots. One community transforming from the inside out.

That is the idea behind everything we do.

Before clean water ever reached his community, Abebe walked into the water bureau to ask for it.

He is a local pastor, and he carried years of work with him: training in advocacy, the trust of his neighbors, and a community committee that had learned to use its voice. The bureau said yes.

Yesterday we shared Abay's story — a mother who saved, trained, and paid for her own water pipe. Abebe is part of the same story. One community. Two leaders. The kind of change that lasts because it comes from within.

Lasting change does not come from us. It comes from leaders who live there.

For the first time in her life, Abay has clean water at her home. She built her way there.

Years ago she joined a savings group, grew a business, and trained as a health educator for the mothers around her. So when a water line to her community became possible, she was ready. She paid for the pipe herself.

One mother. Three programs. A first in her life.

This is how our work is meant to go — not rescue, but equipping. Not dependence, but ownership. Abay didn't wait for someone to solve her problem. She saved, she learned, she led.

This is the kind of transformation your support makes possible.

2025 asked a lot of the families we partner with in Ethiopia. They answered with what our team calls hopeful defiance.

540 children in school. 91% of Grade 8 students passing their national exam. 541 people saving and building businesses together.

This is the year you helped build. See all of it in our 2025 Year in Review: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eWyAsiHY8kwls3Ir6ngJ-IwO0xXUFLG-/view

Grateful for every person who made this possible.

Ninety-five students have been preparing — and exam day is almost here. 📝

In the past two weeks, 39 Grade 6 students and 56 Grade 8 students in our partner community received model examinations to help them get ready for Ethiopia's national exams this month.

These aren't just tests. For many of these students, strong results could open the door to boarding school for high school — possibilities that could shape the rest of their lives.

Would you join us in praying for them? Pray for focused minds and steady hearts as they study. Pray for their teachers who have poured into them all year. And pray for confidence and peace when exam day arrives.

These students are showing up. Let's stand with them. 🙏
