Our final member of our Exec Board is Destiny Amadi. Destiny became a Brother of Kappa Kappa Psi as part of the Rho class in the Spring of 2018. She is the Chapter's acting Secretary and Treasurer - she has previously served as Chapter Treasurer. Destiny's favourite Kappa memories were the late night meals with Brothers at iHop!

08/26/2021

Taylor Rutter became a Brother of Kappa Kappa Psi in the Spring of 2020 as a part of the Phi Class. Her current position as Vice President of Membership is her first Exec Board position. Taylor's favourite memory of Kappa relates back to her unusual MC process. "I joined during the "Covid Semester"; instead of taking two months, my process took nearly a year. At one point, I had the opportunity to complete part of it online with Brothers from across the nation. Being in a room (zoom room, but still) with over two hundred people who all share the same ideals and mindset was an incredible experience that I'll never forget."

08/25/2021

Matthew Hoffman became a Brother of @kappa.kappa.psi in the Spring of 2019. He served as Chapter Counselor before currently serving as our Vice President of Service. Matt's favourite memory of Kappa thus far is the poker night that he ran as a social during his MC process!

08/24/2021

First up is Chapter President, John Choi! John became a brother of Kappa Kappa Psi in the Fall of 2019 in the Upsilon Class. He served as the Vice President of Service before now serving as President. John's favourite memory while being a Brother of Kappa was his Membership Candidate (MC) process - "I felt that as I gained more information and learned about Kappa Kappa Psi's values, I felt like I had found a place to belong!"

08/24/2021

Good morning everyone and happy first week of classes for George Mason University students! Every morning this week a new Officer will be introduced - we all look forward to getting to know you!

Brother Jordan Gibson was featured this week on Colors of Classical Music! Her story is the perfect example of striving for the highest.

“Teaching music has always been my passion, but having a bad experience with my high school band teacher made me not want to pursue music any further. However, I continued playing tuba by joining my university’s pep band, and that experience has completely changed my life. The director, Dr. Michael Nickens, is someone I will always look up to. The way he encourages, and creates endless opportunities for his students and the band, is something I strive to do for my future students. So, the spring semester of my freshman year I decided to audition for the school of music and major in music education.

My first semester of being a music major was very rough. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into (course load wise), never had private lessons, didn’t know much about classical music or music theory, and by being one of the very few black students in the school of music, I felt very left out.
Now as a senior music education major, it is my goal to become the representation I never had while growing up. I want children of color to look at me, and think to themselves, ‘I can do that too.’
Something I would tell my younger self and to everyone is, ‘don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something, or that you’re not good enough.’ “

Home - Black Lives Matter

To current brothers of any status, alumni of Mu Omicron, and the greater community:

Our membership has been closely watching recent events unfold. We would like to take a moment to denounce systemic racism, and its impact on our community. Our organization stands with those fighting for a better future; a fight that has been going on for far too long. We urge you to remember individuals who cannot be replaced, both fighting for their lives and those who are no longer with us. As the saying goes, “history repeats itself,” and it is now doing so with more force and volume than many of us have ever experienced in our lifetimes. As the next generation of young adults, we must stand against those that see it fit to perpetuate hateful rhetoric and discriminatory behavior. George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and Ahmaud Arbery are not the first unarmed Black people murdered by police. These are NOT isolated incidents.

As a diverse organization around the country with notable chapters at HBCUs, it is our civic duty to encourage the public we serve – musicians or not – to observe, listen, educate, and act. Everyone must use their voice to contribute to a community of acceptance and equality. We will never tolerate discrimination or racism of any kind and we will always strive for the highest, both in our chapter and the greater community.

DID YOU KNOW? There are nearly 450 members across all the Green Machine Ensembles... and each member needs an instrument to create the music that we do!

Give to a specific instrument or to our general instrument fund here: http://bit.ly/GreenMachineInstruments

Our campaign will be up for the month of November. Let's see how much we can raise for the students!
