Fair Oaks Volunteer Fire & Rescue Donates Retired Ambulance to Ukraine
Working with the Chicago-based Ukrainian Medical Association of North America (UMANA) and some related medical relief charities, the Fair Oaks Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company (FOVFR) has donated a retired ambulance to be shipped to Ukraine to assist with the relief effort there. Along with some additional supplies, the ambulance will be moved into Ukraine and used wherever the need is greatest; either in the cities or near the battlefront.
Per FOVFR President Jonathan Wood, “The opportunity arose to do something really positive in the world, and the company wholeheartedly supported the effort.” Pictures of the unit after it goes to work in Ukraine will be made available.

Update 8/31: Vehicle has been Approved for Export at the port of Baltimore, and is scheduled to sail on Sept 7th.

Friendly reminder as Halloween and the holiday season approach. Stay safe!
Keep candles at least 1 foot away from anything that can burn. According to the NFPA, More than two of every five (44%) of these fires occurred because the decorations were too close to a heat source, such as a candle or hot equipment.

In remembrance of those who lost their lives. May we honor them in our memories and our actions.

If you call Fire Station 37, Kingstowne, on any given day and ask for the officer in charge, you will notice one thing they all have in common. All of them are women. For the first time in the history of Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, three women fill the top leadership roles of a fire station. In an industry that is striving to acquire more diversity, especially in leadership roles, it signals progress.
