It was an honor to spend some time with the Clifton Lions Club and Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department recently! Jeff Greenfield and Bill Poole are co-chairs of the Annual Labor Day Car Show, co-sponsored by the Clifton Lions Club and City of Fairfax Government. If you aren't familiar with the car show, 100% of the proceeds are donated to community service charities. Jeff and Bill came by our offices to drop off their generous donation to the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department. Thank you so much for supporting our community!

COVID-19 showed us the level of disruption that a disease outbreak can have. It is difficult to predict when another novel pandemic will emerge, but now you are more familiar with the steps you need to take to prevent virus spread such as washing your hands, maintaining social distance, and staying at home, if possible.

This past week our 5 recruits have joined 11 other recruits from around northern VA to form Recruit Class 7! They have been working on familiarizing themselves with their PPE (personal protective equipment) and with each other. Already the class has formed a strong bond and readily work together to get through the day.

To protect each other, we all need to wear a face covering in indoor public settings, starting this Friday, May 29. This includes retail stores, barbershops, restaurants, government buildings, on public transportation, or anywhere where people can congregate in groups indoors.

I am also directing our Department of Labor and Industry to develop emergency regulations to reduce the risk of exposure to #COVID19 in our workplaces. These safety standards will apply to employers, and include use of PPE, sanitation, record keeping, and hazard communication.

We are making progress to contain the spread of #COVID19 in Virginia—let's keep working together to stay safe.
