Today is #GivingTuesday. Please consider donating to SafeSpot Children's Advocacy Center of Fairfax County, a non-profit based in Fairfax City that helps victims of physical and sexual abuse. I support SafeSpot and I ask you to do the same. https://www.safespotfairfax.org/donate-to-safespot-today/
UBT was proud to be a SafeSpot Children's Advocacy Center of Fairfax County Resiliency Club sponsor for their 2021 Champions for Children golf tournament on October 18th.

The fundraising dollars benefit the SafeSpot Children’s Advocacy Center which help childhood victims of abuse with their trauma to provide support for long-term healing and create healthier futures.

The nonprofit, Advancing Parenting, would like to share a rather unusual and free resource for promoting positive childhood experiences and preventing adverse childhood experiences.

Parenting Norms Bumper Stickers

Advancing Parenting makes them available at no cost to children's advocacy centers. There are fifty-two in a set and each sticker communicates a parenting behavior or practice generally recognized as supporting the healthy development of children. Just one will be read thousands of times!

Bumper stickers are a unique and powerful way for friends, family, and community members to share parenting wisdom. At stoplights drivers and passengers point, smile, and nod. Conversations begin and often a phone is used to take a photo of the sticker right at the stoplight. Presumably, they are being shared on social media. It's wonderful to see!

Sets of the stickers can be given away at events and/or put in holders and placed on counters and tables so folks can select one or more for their cars. Visit www.advancingparenting.org to request this free resource. Use a computer...our website is not optimized for phones. Please share.
Meet Rylynn, a 2-year-old Labrador Golden Retriever Mix, who has been placed and certified as a Facility Dog Team with Samantha “Sam” Carrico, LCSW who works in DFS’ Children, Youth and Families Division. Sam recently took Rylynn to meet the SafeSpot Children's Advocacy Center of Fairfax County's facility dog, Virgil, and they had a great time getting to know each other! Assistance dogs do get time to relax and play! But when they're working with children and families they need to be focused and serious about what they are doing. #FacilityDog #RylynnTheDog #FairfaxCountyFamilyServices
Proud to support two very special organizations in the City of Fairfax. Serving as a Councilman is most fulfilling when helping others and making a direct impact. I was so inspired when I met with SafeSpot Children's Advocacy Center and Adaptive Fitness Legion, and hope you click on the article link to learn more about them too. https://bit.ly/3whtSvq
I'd like to share a rather unusual and free child abuse prevention resource...parenting tips bumper stickers! Advancing Parenting, a Camarillo, CA nonprofit, produces parenting tips bumper stickers and makes them available at no cost to schools, businesses, organizations, clinics, and individuals. There are fifty-one in a set and each bumper sticker communicates a parenting behavior or practice generally recognized as supporting the healthy development of children. Just one will be read thousands of times!

Bumper stickers are a unique and powerful way to educate everyone about parenting and prevent child abuse five, ten, twenty, fifty years down the road. At stoplights drivers and passengers point, smile, and nod. Conversations begin and often a phone is used to take a photo of the sticker right at the stoplight. Presumably, they are being shared on social media. It's wonderful to see!

“Important” is an entirely insufficient word to describe the work of child advocacy centers that support victims of sexual and physical abuse. Had an eye-opening meeting with SafeSpot Children's Advocacy Center of Fairfax‘s Executive and Managing directors, and a founding Board Member today. I’m so grateful for these advocates, and am proud that SafeSpot calls Fairfax City home.

Predators don't just groom children - they also groom their families, in order to gain access to children. Watch for signs of grooming; while many adults are genuinely trying to help, predators can be very good at disguising their motives.

Thank you to our friends at SafeSpot Children's Advocacy Center of Fairfax County for this helpful infographic!

Our friends at SafeSpot Children's Advocacy Center of Fairfax County in Virginia took the SHINE message to their local government, and got the month of April declared Child Abuse Prevention Month in Fairfax, just as it is around the country. Read this great piece—just one example of supporters showing up to SHINE for survivors in communities around the country.

The mission of SafeSpot Children’s Advocacy Center is to provide a child-friendly, culturally sensitive environment that promotes the safety and well being of child victims of abuse while facilitating a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary team approach.

This year and every year, we must speak out and stand up for children. Thanks for sharing The Mama Bear Effect! #ItStartsWithGrooming #AwarenessWednesday

Let’s make 2022 the year we speak up MORE not because we’re sure someone is a risk, but because we’re sure that kids need better protection and advocacy.

Note: we will no longer be paying to promote our posts on Facebook/Instagram until they commit to doing more to prevent child exploitation and abuse from being enabled on their platforms. We will not contribute to their bottom line. You are the best promotion for our charitable work - liking, commenting, sharing all help us to spread the word and empower more families to better protect children from sexual abuse. Thank you.

Keeping Kids Safe from Grooming and Manipulation

"Through the grooming process, you are facing escalating abuse... and it's being alternated with rewards..."

Child grooming is subject we rather not think about, but it is a very real issue. Spreading awareness and recognizing the red flags are the best way to stop grooming. Please take a moment to watch Darkness to Light's informative video on keeping kids safe from grooming. #ItStartsWithGrooming #AwarenessWednesday

Whether it was a donation, volunteering at our events, or simply sharing our mission with others, we wouldn't have had such a successful year without your kindness. We can't wait to see what the new year will bring!

An important message from our friends over at Inova Fairfax Hospital. Sending our biggest thanks to every single healthcare worker for all that they do to keep Fairfax County safe. #MDTAppreciation #MondayMotivation

𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀:
If you suspect you might be infected with COVID-19, please do not visit the emergency room for a COVID-19 test. Instead seek out a community testing site or a home test kit. Inova Emergency Departments are prioritizing patients with medical conditions requiring emergency care and those with critical illness. We strongly discourage patients who are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms from coming to the emergency room so we may preserve resources for those in our community with emergent medical needs.

We are working to set up a community testing site – follow us on social media for details.

Groomers tend to target their victims vulnerabilities in order to gain access and trust. Unfortunately, most victims are blindsided by the abusers behavior when their true intentions are revealed. #ItStartsWithGrooming #AwarenessWednesday

A big part of SafeSpot's mission is to provide a child-friendly, culturally-sensitive environment that promotes the safety and wellbeing of child victims of abuse. While our priority will always be the child, we ensure that the caregiver feels just as supported and safe at our Center. #MDTAppreciation #MondayMotivation

Child predators utilize grooming as a way to work their way up to the abuse. By observing the child's reaction to small violations of privacy, predators will learn when to begin escalating the abuse. #ItStartsWithGrooming #AwarenessWednesday

Victim Services has helped a countless number of SafeSpot clients and families this year. We are incredibly grateful to have them on our MDT! Please consider donating to their gift card drive to help local victims in need! #MDTAppreciation #MotivationMonday

The holidays are almost here! But sadly, it’s not a time of joy for everyone. This year, as in years past, the Victim Services Division worked cases involving child victims and witnesses of domestic and sexual violence. Many of these children will not get to celebrate the holidays this year due to the financial burden that comes with being a victim of crime. In the true spirit of the season, we ask you to please join us in brightening the holidays for our courageous children by participating in our 8th Annual Holiday Gift Card Drive.

Your generous donation of gift cards will help those families most impacted by crime bring a smile to the faces of their children who have had a tough road.

Now through Friday, December 18, we are asking for gift card donations for our child victims to big box stores, supermarkets, local restaurants, and clothing stores. Your donations will allow parents and guardians to be active participants in purchasing gifts and practical items for each child that they would normally go without.

Thank you in advance for your generosity! It will brighten the eyes and hearts of our child victims, bring so much joy, and most importantly, will make an impact this holiday season.
Please share to help us spread the word.

An adult giving your child a gift may seem harmless at first glance, but it could raise some concerns if it becomes a pattern. As a parent or caregiver, it is more than okay to create boundaries to keep your child safe. #ItStartsWithGrooming #AwarenessWednesday
