Happy Pi Day! is celebrated annually on March 14th in honor of the mathematical constant, Pi (3/14 = 3.14, the first three significant digits of the constant). Pi represents the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. It is an irrational number; therefore, it cannot be represented as a fraction, nor do its digits ever repeat in an organized sequence.
Many people celebrate Pi day with pie eating contests, or Pi memorization events. Pi is also associated with the Greek letter π; thus, many of our sisters have reason to celebrate on this day. The sisters of Chi Upsilon Sigma wish you a happy Pi day! What flavor pie will you be enjoying today?

is celebrated annually on the third Monday in February and is commonly associated with major retail events and three-day weekends. But did you know that Presidents’ day is federally recognized as Washington’s birthday, and was celebrated on February 22nd until the late 20th century? In 1968, Congress moved many federal holidays to Monday’s with the goal of boosting employee morale by expanding the number of three-day weekends; thus, we have shifted from celebrating Washington’s birthday to recognizing the leaders that have held office over the past 245 years. The women of Chi Upsilon Sigma honor the past, present, and future leadership that continue to shape our nation's history, and encourage you to consider your voice in selecting quality leadership that shapes our path as a nation.
Happy Valentine’s Day! Valentine’s Day is celebrated annually on February 14th and often involves the exchange of gifts between platonic and/or intimate partners to show their admiration. While many of us have heard the story of Saint Valentine, where did Valentine’s Day really originate, and why do we celebrate it?
There are several theories behind the celebration. One states that Saint Valentine lived during the time of Roman Emperor Claudius II, who abolished marriage of young men after noticing that young men drafted to fight in war performed better than married men with children. To combat this, Valentine performed marriages between young couples in secret, granting him his symbol as an icon of romance. Other stories state that he was thrown in prison for defying the Emperor, and during his time in prison, fell in love with his jailor’s daughter, and wrote some of the first love letters, signed “From your Valentine.”
The women of Chi Upsilon Sigma encourage you to practice love in your everyday life by consciously making time for self-care, spending time with those you love, and taking the time to explore how you best practice love. Stay tuned over the next few days for a special series where we share our tips and tricks for practicing love today and everyday!
