When Fairfax City builds a , we do it right. Tonight, Fire Station #33 was recognized with the 2022 Firehouse Station Design Gold Award for outstanding architecture and design from Firehouse.com.

The station, which opened in 2021, replaced a building originally built in 1979 and features state-of-the-art facilities that enhance health, safety, and overall quality of life for fire personnel.

On behalf of the city, Mayor Catherine Read, Batallion Chief Andrea Clark, and Chief John O’Neal accepted the award presented by architect Christopher S. Kehde.

... WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM TO 1 PM EST THURSDAY...

* WHAT... Freezing rain expected. Total ice accumulations of a glaze to around one tenth of an inch. Highest ice amounts will be in the northern and western suburbs of Washington and Baltimore.

* WHERE... The Washington and Baltimore Metropolitan areas including the city of Baltimore and the District of Columbia as well as northeastern and central Maryland.

* WHEN... From 1 AM to 1 PM EST Thursday.

* IMPACTS... Difficult travel conditions are possible. The hazardous conditions will likely impact the morning commute on Thursday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... Wintry precipitation begins overnight and continues into Thursday morning. Warmer air should push in later Thursday morning into Thursday afternoon changing the precipitation to rain.

Slow down and use caution while traveling. When venturing outside, watch your first few steps taken on steps, sidewalks, and driveways, which could be icy and slippery, increasing your risk of a fall and injury.

🎃Candles - Refrain from having an open flame. Use battery-operated candles or glow-sticks in your jack-o-lanterns.
🎃Costumes - Choose the right costume. Stay away from long or flowing fabric, and skip extraneous costume pieces.
🎃Decorations - Avoid flammable decorations including dried flowers, cornstalks and crepe paper that are highly flammable. Keep decorations away from open flames and other heat sources, including light bulbs and heaters.
🎃Exits - Remember to keep all decorations away from doors so that they are not blocking any exits or escape routes.
Smoke alarms - Make sure all of your smoke alarms are working and up to date.
🎃Visibility - Provide flashlights to children or have them carry glow sticks as part of their costumes. Make sure if a child is wearing a mask that the eye holes are large enough to see out of them.

Drug Take Back Day is this Saturday, Oct. 29th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in our station lobby located at 3730 Old Lee Highway. Stop by to safely dispose of your unused and expired medications.

*We will not be accepting needles or EpiPens.

During October, the City of Fairfax Fire Department visited kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades at St. Leo the Great Catholic School, Daniel’s Run Elementary School, and Providence Elementary School to teach about fire safety.

Kindergartners and 1st graders get to watch a puppet show. Kindergarteners learn about Stop, Drop, and Roll, the difference between tools and toys, and to get low and go. 1st graders learn about calling 911 if they witness an emergency, and how fire can be good and bad.

2nd graders take a short field trip outside to our educational trailer and practice E.D.I.T.H., or Exit Drills In The Home. We reinforce what was taught in kindergarten and 1st grade and discuss having a meeting place outside.

3rd graders learn about hazards in the home and get to see some of the materials we have that caused previous fires in The City of Fairfax. City of Fairfax Government

During the City of Fairfax Fall Festival, the City of Fairfax Fire Department provided fire and life safety education to kids and adults on smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, and fire extinguishers. We discussed and answered a lot of great information and questions about fire safety.

At this event, we were able to debut our 911 edu+ simulator. This simulator allowed over 150 children to practice calling 911, speaking with a (simulated) dispatcher, and providing information about a fire or emergency scenario and their addresses. This event was a huge success and an excellent opportunity for all the participating children.

Special to the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department and the for staffing this event and working hard to make this debut a success.
