To my fellow Blue Star Moms
THE MAKING OF A MILITARY MOM~
When the good Lord was creating mothers, he was into his fifth day of overtime.
An angel appeared and said, “You’re having a lot of trouble with this one. Why not use the standard model?”
And the Lord replied, “Have you seen the specifications on this order? Give birth to a child that will become one of my warriors; instill values of duty, honor, and country into them from birth while teaching them to be compassionate and loving; safeguard this treasure through flu, sickness, cuts and scrapes knowing that she can’t be with them when country calls; embrace them but let go of her precious gift to perfect strangers; brighten their day when all seems confused not knowing the pain they are enduring; have the patience of a saint when waiting for them to return home; and have two sets of shoulders to handle the weight of both love and uncertainty.”
The angel shrugged slowly looking down and said, “two sets of shoulders… no way!”
And the Lord answered, ”Don’t worry, we’ll make other military mothers to help carry the burden. Besides it’s not the shoulders that are causing the problem, it’s the heart. It must swell with pride, sustain the ache of separation, beat on steadily when it’s too worried to do so and be large enough to say, “I Understand” when it doesn’t.
“Lord,” said the angel, touching his sleeve gently. “Come to bed… finish this tomorrow!”
“I can’t,” said the Lord. ”I’m so close to creating something special and unique. Already I have one who heals herself from within; can send joy a thousand miles away in just a small box; able to cheer them up with one phone call and can wave good-bye from a pier, a car or off a runway and understand that it is important to her country that they leave.”
The angel circled the model of the military mother very slowly. “It’s too soft,” she sighed.
“But tough,” said the Lord excitedly. “You cannot imagine what this woman can do or endure.”
“Can it think?”
“Can it think? It can home school if need be”
Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek. “There’s a leak,” she pronounced. “I told you that you were trying to put too much into this model.”
“It’s not a leak,” said the Lord. “It’s a tear.”
“What’s it for?” asked the angel.
“It’s for joy. Sadness. Disappointment. Pain, loneliness and pride!”
“You are a genius,” sighed the angel.
The Lord looked somber and replied, “I didn’t put it there."

Today, Dec. 13, we recognize as the 386th birthday of the National Guard. On this date in 1636, the first militia regiments in North America organized in Massachusetts. Based upon an order of the Massachusetts Bay Colony’s General Court, the colony’s militia was organized into three permanent regiments to defend the colony better.
Today, the descendants of these first regiments – the 181st Infantry, the 182nd Infantry, the 101st Field Artillery, and the 101st Engineer Battalion of the Massachusetts Army National Guard – share the distinction of being the oldest units in the U.S. military.
Dec. 13, 1636, thus marks the beginning of the organized militia, and the birth of the National Guard’s oldest organized units is symbolic of the founding of all the state, territory and District of Columbia militias that collectively make up today’s National Guard.

SSS Named a Finalist in Mission Daybreak Grand Challenge

Hi everyone,
As you all know, Chariots of Honor honors all our veterans, yet it is very important that we take care of them too!
I hope you can join us next Monday, October 17, 2022 for this month's Military Appreciation Monday (MAM) dinner which will be in support of the organization Stop Soldier Su***de (SSS). Many of you may know that 13 years ago we held a MAM dinner for SSS which got the organization off the ground. Since then it has grown tremendously and is helping save the lives of active duty military and veterans.
About two weeks ago, Cofer Black, former U.S. Ambassador for Counterterrorism sent the following short message:
MAM Supporters - You helped plant this acorn which is growing into what General Milley (when he was the Army Chief of Staff) called the “Best Non-Profit of its Type”!
https://stopsoldiersu***de.org/news/mdb-announcement
If you can join us, please be sure to call the Old Brogue at (703) 759-3309 and make a reservation for either the 5:30 or 7:30 seating. Please send me an email or give a call if your company would like to join NT Concepts and sign up as a corporate sponsor. Last year, through so many generous supporters, we raised over $35,000.
Please read one other thing:
A free benefit concert is being presented by the Virginia Chamber Orchestra for Ukraine medical relief this coming Sunday afternoon, 4:00 PM, October 16. The event is hosted at McLean Baptist Church and details are in the attached announcement. Contributions to the relief effort will be accepted, but no tickets are needed. 100 percent of contributions goes directly for relief.
Should you wish to contribute but cannot attend the concert, checks may be made payable to McLean Baptist Church with a note "Ukraine Benefit Concert" in the memo line and mailed to:
McLean Baptist Church
1367 Chain Bridge Road
McLean, VA 22101
An electronic contribution can be made by using the Zelle platform to transfer funds: [email protected]. Again, designate Ukraine Benefit Concert in the memo line.
You may share both of these events with anyone you know who might be interested.
Sincerely,
Bob Nelson
A lifetime of service to community and country. Be sure to ask us about Military Appreciation Mondays.
The highest compliment my son and I can receive is your referrals of friends, family and colleagues.

Happy birthday to the Air Force! Here's to many more years where you Aim High, Fly-Fight-Win! Even though the U.S. military purchased its first aircraft in 1909, the U.S. Air Force did not exist as a separate and independent branch until September 18, 1947.

DoD Birthday 08/10/2022

DoD Birthday

The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) was established Aug. 10th, 1949. Although, the federal government has overseen the U.S. Armed forces since our nation’s inception, the Department of Defense name and centralized defense department was not established until the late 1940s. The “official” anniversary of the creation of the Department of Defense as we know it in modern times is Aug. 10. Established in 1949 thanks to an amended National Security Act (more on that below) the agency is run by the Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) with the Joint Chiefs of Staff for the various military services operating subordinately to the SECDEF.

The DoD Birthday will be celebrated on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2022.

The United States Department of Defense (DoD) is a federal agency described as an Executive Branch department. The DoD is described as being among the largest employers in the world; there are more than one million active duty service members, more than 800 thousand members of the Guard and Reserve, and more than 700 thousand civilian employees.

The Department of Defense headquarters is located inside the Pentagon operating with the mission statement to provide the nation with military forces to act as a deterrent and provide national security.
