Shelters to Shutters
Meet S2S superstar, Sherrice! Shelters to Shutters moved Sherrice and her family into her apartment right before the Thanksgiving holiday. A mother of four, she and her children came to Nashville to escape a bad situation. After spending several weeks at the YWCA domestic violence shelter, Sherrice worked with Shelters to Shutters to find a new start. She was invited to interview and won a job as a groundskeeper with Shelters to Shutters’ industry partner, Freeman Webb. As Sherrice and her children prepared to move in to their new home, the red CORT truck pulled in with donated home essentials and furniture, and the YWCA staff stepped in to decorate it before their arrival. Congratulations to Sherrice, and a huge thank you to our incredible partners @FreemanWebb, @CORT, and @YWCA. We look forward to continuing to work with Sherrice on her journey to economic independence with her new career in the multifamily real estate industry.
Thanks to Anita Abdeshahian and the Javan Anti Aging & Wellness Institute for supporting participants in our National Capital Region.

YOU help us create that path to self sufficiency!

Shelters to Shutters provides housing and employment opportunities to the homeless by educating property management professionals and encouraging action.

Shelters to Shutters provides housing and employment opportunities to formerly homeless individuals

Shelters to Shutters is a nonprofit organization that provides housing and employment opportunities to the homeless by educating and engaging real estate/property management leaders and encouraging action within their communities. It is estimated that over the course of a year, 3.5 million people experience homelessness, 40 percent of whom are children. These individuals and families experience a life-altering event such as a job loss, domestic abuse, or other situations and find themselves where they never thought they would be—without a home. Unlike most perceptions, less than 30% of homeless have drug or alcohol dependency issues, or are mentally ill. Most homeless want to work and return to a life of self-sufficiency. Shelters to Shutters provides solutions in participating communities for individuals facing homelessness by:

• Partnering with local organizations that serve the homeless, veterans, and domestic violence victims to identify successful candidates for the Shelters to Shutters Program;

• Engaging property managers and real estate professionals within the community to provide housing, job opportunities, and mentoring for individuals who are looking for a “hand up” not a “hand out” on their path from homelessness to economic self-sufficiency. Shelters to Shutters brings together apartment industry and real estate professionals across the country who are committed to offering opportunity and economic independence to individuals facing homelessness. Please join our efforts by serving as a Mentor, interviewing Shelters to Shutters job candidates, and matching these ready-to-work individuals with opportunity.
