Loudoun County Sheriff's Office

Have you made plans for New Year’s Eve? Make sure they include a safe ride home!

LCSO Deputies will be conducting a saturation patrol concentrating on DUI enforcement during the holiday. The message is simple- drinking alcohol and driving does not mix. If you plan to consume alcohol, never get behind the wheel of a vehicle

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office recommends these simple tips for a safe holiday:

Plan a safe way home before the festivities begin;

Before drinking, designate a sober driver and leave your car keys at home

If you’re impaired, use a taxi or ride-hailing service, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation;

Remember, the Washington Regional Alcohol Program SoberRide program in partnership with Lyft is being offered nightly from 10 p.m. until 4a.m. from now until January 1, 2020. To use this service download the Lyft app to your phone and enter the applicable code in the app’s ‘Promo’ section. Valid for up to $15 off one ride home taken in Lyft’s Washington, D.C. coverage area.

More information on the WRAP SoberRide program can be found here: http://www.wrap.org/soberride/

If you happen to see a drunk driver on the road, don’t hesitate to contact your local law enforcement.

Remember, Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving. If you know someone who is about to drive or ride with a driver who is impaired, take the driver’s keys and help them make other arrangements to get to where they are going safely.

BE ALERT TO A RECENT PHONE SCAM! If you get a call from a person who claims that a warrant is out for your arrest for failing to report for jury duty, HANG UP! It's a scam! The caller falsely says he is Lt. Raines with the Sheriff's Office. He tells you to buy $2,000 in reloadable cards and meet him at the Courthouse on Chain Bridge Road. DON'T DO IT! The Sheriff's Office will never call you and make threats, claiming that a warrant is outstanding for your failure to appear in court or that you missed jury duty, failed to pay a utility bill or owe the IRS for unpaid taxes. The same is true for the courts and the police. Learn more: www.fairfaxcounty.gov/sheriff/be-alert-phone-scams
