Applications NOW AVAILABLE for the 2018 Mason LeaderShape Institute!! Don't miss out on this amazing experience. For more info and to apply, visit: https://lead.gmu.edu/leadershapeinstitute/. The deadline to apply is March 23rd.

Here's what some of our students have to say:
"In six days, the Mason LeaderShape Institute embodied what George Mason University stands for, a message that takes some students their entire college career to learn: freedom to grow and discover the numerous possibilities in the world, and learning how being a leader is something anyone can accomplish if they β€œhave a healthy disregard for the impossible.”

"I am so grateful to the LEAD office for providing me with that collaborative space and especially for that week-long immersion into those relationships. LeaderShape has continued to impact my outlook on my abilities. I am constantly reflecting on my knowledge learned in the week, and applying it to my day-to-day situations. I often find my motivation comes from thinking about all the goals I set back at LeaderShape. At the end of that week, I walked away so excited to start the Fall semester, feeling very connected to my campus community."

"Going to the LeaderShape Institute was one of the most enriching experiences I have had during my college experience. During this 6-day institute, I grew tremendously as a person. I was put into an environment with other students, faculty, staff, and professionals that all wanted to focus on personal development and personal growth while learning how to contribute their own individual voice to events and issues that are important today. This institute allowed me to take a deeper look into myself and where I currently stand with my leadership skills and how I could grow and develop more into the woman that I wanted to become. I left with so many useful tools and connections to others at Mason because of this trip."

"Being a part of the LeaderShape Institute at Mason provided me with the BIGGEST transformation throughout my college experience. The things I gained from LeaderShape are things few people, who are lucky enough, get to experience in their lifetime. For the first time in my life, I was given tools to help me define myself."

"The most rewarding aspect of Mason LeaderShape was what I learned about myself and my capacity to be a catalyst for positive change. This has allowed me to focus on my vision and continue to work on it in a way that will contribute to society."
Interested in working in the LEAD Office? Looking for an incredible leadership experience on campus and working with an amazing team of people :) Applications to be a Student Leadership Consultant for the 2018-2019 academic year are NOW AVAILABLE. The deadline to apply is March 9th at 5pm. For more info and to apply, visit: https://lead.gmu.edu/involvement/leadership-consultants/.

Today, we celebrate and honor the lives and contributions made by members of our First Nations all over the United States.

George Mason University still does not officially recognize this holiday, but Student Government is working alongside our Native and Indigenous community members to pass legislation that calls for its observation.

Please take some time today to educate yourself and others on Indigenous histories, cultures, and advocacy by Native peoples at our university as well as in our country as a whole. From Student Government to you, happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day! #IPD2020

10/11/2020

This October, Mason Student Government wants to commemorate three celebrations taking place. We are happy to uplift and recognize the endless contributions that our Filipino, Latin\Hispanic, and Indigenous communities have brought to our campus and the rest of the Mason community.
Hispanic Heritage Month: September 15th-October 15th
HHM celebrates the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic Americans to our nation and society. This month celebrates the traditions of all Americans who trace their roots to Spain and Spanish-speaking nations of Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.
Follow the Hispanic Student Association(@hsa_gmu) for more information and events.
Filipino-American History Month: October 1st-October 31st
The celebration of FAHM in October commemorates the first recorded presence of Filipinos in the continental U.S. This month is used as a reflection, celebration, and activation for the Filipinx community.
Follow the Filipino Cultural Association(@gmufca) for more information and events.
Indigenous People’s Day: October 12th
Indigenous People’s Day celebrates and honors Native peoples as well as their history and culture. It is celebrated across the United States and is an official city holiday in a growing number of various states, cities, and universities.
Follow the Native American and Indigenous Alliance(@gmunaia) for more information and events.

Please take some time to observe these celebrations and participate in community events hosted by different cultural RSOs at Mason. To our students celebrating, thank you for sharing your histories, culture, and spirit with our university.
