I’ve been working on The Alchemy of Her for close to a year now and I’ve learned a few things:

•Healing isn’t linear. Two women can experience the exact same photoshoot and walk away with completely different breakthroughs. There isn’t a “right” way to reclaim yourself.
•Being seen is terrifying… and freeing. Many women arrive convinced they’ll hate every photo. Seeing themselves through someone else’s eyes often challenges years of self-criticism.
•Confidence isn’t something you find. It’s something you practice. The project has shown that confidence comes from choosing to show up before you feel ready, not after.
•Transformation happens long before the shutter clicks. The conversations beforehand, choosing outfits, writing reflections, and deciding to participate are all part of the alchemy.
•Every woman carries a story you can’t see. Abuse survivors, women rebuilding after divorce, mothers, women recovering from illness, people rediscovering themselves… the project reminds you never to assume someone has had an easy path.
•Beauty has almost nothing to do with conventional attractiveness. Presence, authenticity, vulnerability, and joy photograph far more powerfully than trying to look “perfect.”
•Community accelerates healing. Watching the women support one another has shown that transformation isn’t always a solitary journey. Sometimes it’s witnessed into existence.
•My role is bigger than taking photographs. I’ve become part storyteller, part confidence-builder, part cheerleader, and part historian, preserving the moment someone realizes they’re enough.
•Perfection isn’t the goal. Presence is. The project has continually reinforced that it’s about becoming, not arriving. It’s documenting evolution, not perfection.
•This project changed me as much as my models. It strengthened my own confidence, reminded me how resilient and capable I am, and taught me to be more intentional, focus on what truly works, and build something sustainable rather than trying to do everything at once.
