Saving lives and building community

100 days ago Merino and Big Horn were huddled together in a wire slat cage, emaciated, sick and scared.

During a trip to visit our shelter partners in Louisiana, Ashlynn, our Executive Director, met them and knew any chance of them recovering and having a future was bleak without Paws and Claws. A couple weeks later, these two made a life changing journey to Evanston and began their new chapter. We introduced you to them then and now several months later Big Horn and Merino are completely changed.

In the end they needed a few simple things; medical care for their infected ears, antibiotics for their respiratory infections, basic medical care and a safe home to heal.

Their foster, Allison, has helped them put on weight, and learn all that life has to offer (cuddles, afternoon sunlight, window watching and the company of each other).

Allison shared that: Merino gets “the rollies,” where she rolls around, purring and letting out high-pitched trilling meows. Bighorn is looking for someone who is willing and enthusiastic to snuggle him.

Our job here is done. Merino and Big Horn are healed, happy and ready for their last big move… it’s time they found their forever family! Could that be you? Apply: https://www.pawsandclawscatrescue.org/adoptable

These two are included in our special discount for our lovely longtermers that runs until this Friday.

We currently have 30 cats in our care who have been with Paws and Claws for over 100 days. Most of these cats have no quirks whatsoever and love kids, cats and even dogs!

We want them to find their forever homes (because why the heck are they still with us?!) To make these sweet cats even sweeter, we are sweetening the deal and discounting their adoption fees now through Friday! View all of them on our adoptables page and look for the disclaimer at the top of their bio to indicate they are one of our lovely longtermers.

Nespresso and Keurig are two of the bunch. They have been known to cuddle kids during sleepovers even comforting a child who couldn’t fall asleep. Keurig will frequently shake from pure excitement upon seeing his favorite humans, and Nespresso loves belly rubs and being hugged.

To say someone will be so lucky to have them is an understatement. Apply to adopt: https://www.pawsandclawscatrescue.org/adoptable

Sure, Chicago Ave is under construction—but a little construction never hurt anyone! The cats haven’t gone anywhere, and neither have we. We’re still open for cuddle cat hours!

There is paid parking lot on Main Street near Button Bakery and free street parking on Hinman, the street behind us.

Eight cats found their forever families at this weekend’s Adoption Events!

While we’re celebrating these happy endings, 157 cats are still in our care, and more than 100 are up for adoption.

Could one of them be your perfect match? Visit our Adoptables website to see who’s waiting for a second chance. 💙

We’ve got our fingers crossed that this weekend’s adoption events will be the happy ending Street and Avenue have been waiting for! 💙 Our volunteers, Gabriela and Cici, wanted everyone to see just how sweet these boys are.

Street and Avenue have been with us for six months now, and they’re only 10 months old. These playful brothers love to cuddle, wrestle, and spend every moment together. They’re especially fond of getting pets with both hands at once—and they’ll happily remind you if you stop.

Come meet them tonight from 5:30–7:30 p.m. or tomorrow from 12–3 p.m. and help us find the forever home they deserve!

We are extremely grateful to share that together, at The Catalyst Ball, we raised...$155,000!!!

We keep replaying the moment when we shared Seabiscuit’s story. His amputation, his recovery, and the fight it took to get him to where he is now.

As we watched his story unfold, the room fell quiet. And then we shared a truth that sits at the heart of our work: Seabiscuit’s are everywhere.

Cats who need emergency care, amputations, long recoveries, second chances they can’t fight for on their own, and simply to be counted as worth saving.

Second chances come true for cats like Seabiscuit when a community of people like you decide they matter.

We’re grateful. We’re energized. We’re in awe of what happens when our community comes together like this. And now, we’re ready to take on the rest of 2026!

Happy June! We’re still riding the high from an incredible end to May and will share The Catalyst Ball’s fundraising total with you soon. Until then, here’s May by (some of) the numbers. 😉
