Announcing Our 2024-2025 Young Artists Competition

Euclid Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Jimmie Parker, Sr., announce the 6th annual Tom Baker Young Artists Competition to be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 11:00-3:00 PM at Shore Cultural Centre in Euclid, OH.

The competition, named in memory of Tom Baker, a longtime friend, donor, and member of the Euclid Symphony Orchestra, is open to any advanced musician (instrumental or vocal) age 18 or younger who is capable of performing appropriate concerto-level (or equivalent) virtuosic works.

The competition winner will receive a $500 cash prize and a performance with the Euclid Symphony Orchestra on their spring classical concert. Last year’s winner, Louis Wang, was featured performing Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, on the symphony’s April 7, 2024 concert.

Entering its 64th season, the Euclid Symphony Orchestra is a community orchestra whose goal is to cultivate community through music, foster appreciation of orchestral music, educate children about the orchestral genre, and provide an outlet for musicians to perform and develop musicianship. The ESO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Shaw High band selected to perform in Honolulu at ‘Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade’

Join the Euclid Symphony Orchestra, a leading community ensemble welcoming musicians of all ages and backgrounds from Northeastern Ohio.

Rehearsals are Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8:45 PM at Shore Cultural Centre, located at the corner of Babbitt Rd. and E. 222nd St. in Euclid, either in the band room or on the auditorium stage.

Current vacancies include:

* Bass
* Percussion
* Flute
* Bassoon
* Trumpet
* French Horn
* Trombone
* Bass

Auditions will be held in-person on August 14 and 21, 2024. Prepare ONE standard solo concerto or solo piece (approximately 3 minutes) and ONE orchestral excerpt of your choosing. Unedited video auditions are also accepted.

We are incredibly sad to hear of the passing of long time ESO member Tim Finucan. Tim played French Horn with our orchestra for over 50 years. He will be sorely missed.

Mass of Christian Burial for Timothy “Tim” David Joseph Finucan, Sr., age 72, of Eastlake, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church 29850 Euclid Ave., Wickliffe (FAMILY AND FRIENDS PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). Tim passed away May 6, 2024. He was born February 4, 1952 in Cleveland, OH to the late John J., Jr. and Patricia (nee Goetz) Finucan.

Tim retired from Conn-Selmer after working there for 32 years as a horn tester. He was involved with the Euclid Symphony Orchestra for 50 plus years, and for 15 years he always grew a beard every Christmas season to play Santa Claus for Childtime Daycare (Formerly, Luv, Learn-N-Laughter).

Tim loved playing golf, karaoke and playing in his own garage band in his garage, darts, the French Horn, going to concerts and smoking ci**rs. He also loved watching the History Channel and war movies.

Tim was the loving father of Tammy (Tina Abraham), Timothy, Jr., Michael and Brandy (Michael) Dehner; devoted grandfather of Mason, Lily and Cameron; loving boyfriend of Stacey Schultz; former spouse of Deborah Finucan; dear brother of Matt (deceased) (Lori), Christopher (deceased) and Maura (Joe) Zalik; dear uncle of Kelli, Sarah, Emily, Adam, Laura, Darlene, Jason, Vinny, Paul and Kathy.

The family will receive friends at THE ORLANDO-DONSANTE-PREVITE FUNERAL HOME 29550 EUCLID AVE., WICKLIFFE, ON THURSDAY, MAY 9TH FROM 5:00 TO 8:00 PM. Inurnment will be in All Souls Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tim’s memory to the Euclid Symphony Orchestra P.O. BOX 32081, Euclid, OH 44132.

Spiritual Echoes: A Black History Celebration with Euclid Symphony Orchestra

Get ready for a night of soul-stirring melodies and inspirational performances as the Euclid Symphony Orchestra presents “Spiritual Echoes: A Black History Celebration.” Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 17, 2024, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the prestigious Maltz Performing Arts Center.

This special event, led by Jimmie A. Parker, Sr. (Music Director and ESO Conductor), and supported by Eric Barnhill (Choirmaster) and Rodney Hubbard (Band Director), promises unforgettable performances that transcend boundaries and resonate with the spirit of unity and love. Beyond the regular concert season, this unique celebration is not included in the season ticket package, offering a one-of-a-kind experience.

The evening will feature an array of guest soloists and groups, including the Euclid Symphony Orchestra Chorus, The Shaw HS Marching Band, and the Grammy Award-winning Charles Fold Singers from Cincinnati. The latter will deliver a poignant Black History Month tribute to Dr. Charles Fold, adding a special touch to this unprecedented cross-genre musical event.
