I just wanted to extend my biggest, heartfelt, "thank you" to everyone who has sent kind words, grabbed a print, shared my art, donated, or literally anything else today/last night regarding the Bonnaroo cancelation scenario. I'm very humbled by my amazing community here. ❤️🥺

If I could, I would give you all a big, sweaty, rainy hug! Haha! It's been a rough day and a half here but we are finally about to pack out and leave 'Roo behind.

I love you all. See some of you at E-Forest next week, hopefully. Let's all collectively hope for better weather there. 💙

As some of you may already know, we are all unfortunately dealing with the devastating effects of Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival canceling last night.

At aprox 2PM yesterday the venue was evacuated and storms hailed down until around 7PM. This left the venue (campgrounds especially) an absolute mess for patrons, staff, and vendors alike.

At around this time, the festival announced it canceled. We and many others are currently still stuck here, while vehicles can't move due to sludge and swamps. There are currently 80,000 people in attendance with more storms rolling in soon.

Fortunately a lot of patrons made light of the situation and created make-shift slip & slides or had mud fights.

As for the vendors, we are unfortunately gutted. This event takes so much preparation and a lot of overhead income costs to make it happen. We will be feeling this blow all year.

For myself, as a full-time artist, things like this can't be understated. It's super upsetting to know how much was lost this weekend. I do realize this is just the name of the game we play with outdoor events (this happened to me last year with Texas Eclipse canceled last day) and will have to accept it, but it's very tough. I'm afraid this will effect my entire year now. 😕

We paired down to just 4 events this summer, and this was one of them. I know there are people who have it way worse right now than I do, but it still sucks. I'm asking for some extra support right now, which is really hard to do. I've never done this before and feel weird even asking...read comments.

It finally happened; I was recently accused of my art being "AI." It was bound to happen eventually, likely from those who are unfamiliar with my page.

To be honest, I'm not mad; If anything, I'll try my best to take it as a compliment. For the record, I will never use AI in my process ~ I have many takes on this subject (mostly negative) but I'll leave that for another conversation. Today, I'd like to talk a little about my artistic process from start to finish!

1.) The sketch phase; I first sketch out (roughly) my idea onto paper. Once I have this done, I will clean up my sketch and make any final adjustments. I sketch using a mechanical drafting pencil, very lightly onto my paper.

2.) Base layers; For this gouache piece, I first laid down a light yellow base layer. This layer helps to complement the top layers. From here, I'll first begin painting my subjects eyes, and move onto the face from there. For watercolors, this process looks like a bunch of super light layers slowly leading to dark layers. For gouache, its opposite ~ I break my layers down into their simplest color components, starting with the darks.

3.) After my main subject is complete, I will then move onto the background. For this piece, I started with a solid light green color and slowly expanded by adding my details. Details are always last in my process.

4.) The finished piece; The piece is now complete! I don't really do much from here. I've thought about using a fixative, but I just leave the piece as is. No varnish, no fixative, just raw painting.

And that's that! Obviously, it's more complicated than that, but before you accuse someone of something you don't even know is true, check their profile ~ you might be surprised what you'll find!

"Night Wing" 🦉

I've been contemplating painting an owl for many years now. After recently discovering gouache, I realized I could make that vision come to life as I truly have seen it within my head.

I decided on the "Short Eared Owl," because his feather coloration was so much more interesting to me than a standard owl. It was difficult to get this pose, but I wanted him to be dynamic, holding onto the two headed snake with his third eye opened. The fungi are actually Enoki, but the wild version ~ which are much more pretty than the white versions you see elsewhere.
