Prince Harry, Meghan and their two kids ‘to return to the UK in a matter of weeks’
After months of speculation and some telling clues, a source close to Harry and Meghan has confirmed their big – and unexpected – decision.
Prince Harry will be joined by Meghan and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, when he returns to the UK in just a matter of weeks, after feeling “great sadness” at the disconnect with his home country.
News.com.au can exclusively reveal that the entire family is planning to make the trip from Montecito, California, in line with the Duke of Sussex’s One Year To Go Invictus events in Birmingham, in mid-July.
It does not appear there are plans for the family to relocate to the UK permanently at this stage.
“It’s been a real point of great sadness – for Harry especially – that he’s been unable to bring his wife and kids back to the UK safely to reconnect with friends and family, but anyone would understand his desire to put their safety first,” a source close to Harry told news.com.au of his decision.
“He would love to introduce the children to his wider family, to show them the UK, where he grew up – his homeland. That would be a natural thing for any parent.”
News.com.au has reached out to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for comment.
While Harry has made several trips back to his home country in the six years since quitting royal duties, Meghan – and the kids – usually stay home.
In fact, it’s been almost four years since Meghan’s last UK visit. She and Harry were in Britain for work commitments in September 2022 when Queen Elizabeth II passed away, prompting them to extend their stay.

Furious' Meghan Markle true feelings for Prince Harry finally come to light
A royal expert has disclosed Meghan Markle’s true feelings for her husband Prince Harry amid rumours of rift.
Royal expert Rob Shuter, citing the insiders has claimed that the Duchess believes “Harry is one of the most recognizable men in the world.”
Meghan’s true feelings have been disclosed after Harry was snubbed with seating arrangements at the NBA Finals.
In his latest piece for substack Naughty But Nice, Rob writes Harry may have enjoyed the NBA Finals, but insiders say Meghan was paying attention to something far more important than the score: where he was sitting.
While Hollywood stars Timothée Chalamet and Ben Stiller enjoyed coveted courtside seats, Harry was seated eight rows back — a placement sources say did not go unnoticed by Meghan.
The close insiders claimed, “Meghan notices everything when it comes to image,” adding, “To her, seating is status. It’s not just about watching a game — it’s about who sees you watching the game.”
The spy continued, “Meghan believes Harry is one of the most recognizable men in the world.”
When Prince Harry is sitting behind celebrities instead of beside them, Meghan “sees it as a message.”
Meghan also can’t ignore another comparison after this snub to Harry.
The expert said, “Meghan knows Prince William and Princess Kate would have been offered front-row treatment.”

Prince Harry travelling to UK alone for Invictus Games amid ongoing security fears for his family
Prince Harry will reportedly travel to the UK alone ahead of the Invictus Games, with security fears prompting him to leave Meghan and the kids behind
Prince Harry will reportedly travel to the UK alone ahead of the 2027 Invictus Games, with ongoing security concerns preventing Meghan Markle and their children from joining him.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back as working members of the royal family in 2020 - a move that resulted in the loss of their taxpayer-funded police protection while in the UK.
Prince Harry is expected to make a rare visit to Britain in preparation for the 2027 Invictus Games, but reports suggest he will be jet-setting across the pond alone.
According to Page Six, The Duke of Sussex had previously hoped to bring his wife, Meghan and their children Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, with him to the UK for this trip, yet refuses to because of concerns about their security.
The report also claimed Harry hoped the trip could be a reunion between father and son, with Page Six claiming he "desperately" wanted to visit King Charles.
Harry has been fighting to have his UK security arrangements reinstated since 2020 and has repeatedly said he does not feel safe bringing his family to Britain without adequate protection.
"The UK is my home. The UK is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the United States," Harry said in a statement to the High Court of London in 2023.
"That cannot happen if there is no possibility to keep them safe when they are on UK soil.
"I can't put my wife in danger like that, and given my experiences in life, I'm reluctant to unnecessarily put myself in harm's way too."
Following the loss of his appeal against the UK government's decision on his security arrangements, Harry told the BBC he was "devastated" by the outcome.
He also claimed his father "won't speak to me because of this security stuff".
He said the lack of security impacts him "every single day" and only allows him to safely return to the UK when he is invited by the Royal Family, as that would ensure him the protection.
Royal commentators have been largely divided over the Sussexes' request for taxpayer-funded security, claiming the quasi-royal couple don't have the same rights as they used to.
The couple's trip to Australia this year also caused backlash amid reports that the public had to allegedly foot the bill for security and policing operations, with some saying their antics are "blurring the lines between private business and monarchy business".
Royal expert Hilary Fordwich said the couple's behaviour since stepping back as working royals has been "utterly unacceptable".
"What Queen Elizabeth II viewed as totally and utterly unacceptable has been adopted by the Sussexes as their modus operandi, blurring the line between being private citizens and wannabe celebrities while leveraging their royal connections," Fordwich told Fox News.
"Each trip they make is styled to be rather like a faux-royal tour as they seem to monetize almost every moment."

Prince Harry reacts as royal family gathers for Trooping the Colour without him and Meghan Markle: 'Thank you for your service'
Prince Harry known for his role as the founder of the Invictus Games, an annual international sporting event that showcases the talents of wounded, injured and sick military service members. The Royal has remained committed to the games since first launching them in 2014, using the platform to celebrate the achievements of military personnel from around the world. Now, the Duke of Sussex shares a rare message during an important moment that coincides with a significant royal family gathering.
According to Instyle, Prince Harry shared a rare statement during the Invictus Games opening ceremony in Germany on June 13. As it happened, his video message was played at almost the same time the royal family stepped out for the annual Trooping the Colour event in London. The timing of the dual events meant the royal family was divided between two continents on the same significant day.
Royal family attends Trooping the Colour without Prince Harry
It just so happened that the annual Trooping the Colour kicked off the same morning, with Harry's brother, Prince William, riding on horseback, while Kate Middleton and their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, rode alongside him in a carriage. The ceremony remains one of the most important dates on the royal calendar, celebrating the official birthday of the reigning monarch.
Harry and Meghan did not appear at the ceremony, marking another year of their absence from the traditional event. They had not attended Trooping the Colour in four years, as they last attended in 2022 following their departure from the royal family and life in the UK in 2020. When they had attended previously, they skipped the balcony portion of the event.
